I'll just go ahead and give my answer and reasoning. You might not want to read on if you want to fool yourself into believing I wrote the choices given completely unbiased.
Nothing sickens me more sometimes than people going on and on about how much better life was in the past. Take the rennaisance. What was so fuking great about the rennaisance: the fact that 1/2 the people you knew weren't dying from the black death and the other 1/2 were living in sh!t?
So many people have this overly-glorified view of the past, and it seems to me they forget about the horrible things the past had to offer: disease, poverty, bloody war, world-wide Taliban-esque treatment of women, slavery, illiteracy, ignorance, Manifest Destiny, inquisitions ...
My answer to the above would have to be right here, right now. The future could be better or it could be worse, but that's the point: it's the future, so we don't know for sure. I think, with everything that's happening and has happened this year, that overall this is a great time to be alive.
Yes, I know as an American it's easy for me to think everything's all peachy 'cause I live in the richest country in the world, but even "lesser" countries have it made these days compared to what life was like in the past. Yes, things could be better, but I believe overall they're better than they ever have been.
