3dfx Problems

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Hu has a pretty good idea...try running in Direct X,see if you have a problem too.ALso if you have Quake 3 Arena...try that too.Maybe your voodoo2 is giving out on ya.
If everything is ok...try an older UT patch like 405 or 413 if you can get them. Maybe the newer patches have updated Glide .dll's.

Come to think of it...ill send you my Glide .dll from my UT directory...maybe yours got corrupted some how.
Just drop this file into UnrealTournament/System folder.

Lemme know if it helps.

When it sits at a Black Screen, does it give you a steady audio whine? and/or does it stop at the black screen while its precacheing?

also what Voodoo 2 card are you using?

In any event good luck with 3dfx.Hope they can help.

Hi,

I think I've had the same problem with my pc/3dfx card;
Is UT the only game thats having trouble? or do other games also not work with 3dfx?/Glide?
if the other games also do not work try opening your pc and find yor 3dfx card get it out of your pc and clean it (gently!!!!!) and also clean the socket you put it in get the dust out or try another socket! Then start your pc up again and goto :
My Computer, right click it and select the second tab..
there find your 3dfx card, select it and remove it!
then close all windows and reboot. Windows will now (hopelfully) detect your card. Then reinstall your drivers and you're ready to rumble! lol :)

good luck!

FYI, dxdiag is not a form of rendering. You do not execute this command with anything running except your windows desktop. It is a testing utility that comes with DirectX7 or DirectX8, which you must have installed on your computer in order for UT to work.

Go to:

Start

then to :

Run

type in:

dxdiag

in the box. If you did this and all you get is a black screen, then you should likely reinstall directx7 (or 8) and/or your video card drivers.

Once dxdiag is running, click on each tab and run any of the tests that are available. If your video card is screwy, it will likely fail on the fullscreen hardware rendering tests.

Eh this is not totally true I run UT perfectly without Direct X 7.0 / 8.0.......And I've got superfly graphics (for voodooII that is...)

(didn't my previous reply help at all?)

Voodoo2 problems

Go to http//www.omegacorner.com and print out
his instructions for uninstalling and reinstalling
your voodoo drivers(3dfx link). His site is
mainly for voodoo3 drivers, but the process should
be the same(the drivers are for both cards).

If the old drivers aren't unstalled properly, there
can be problems with the new drivers.
