Wanted to post the news but Shivaxi already did :)

The new version is version F, but this does not mean its the final version(as in F for Final). So make note that its still beta, but its getting closer and closer to the final release, and most bugs have been taken out. This version also still does break with RTNP. So if you want to keep your Unreal(Gold) with RTNP either install a secondary Unreal(Gold) for 227, or loose RTNP. Final version of the patch WILL have support for RTNP.

You can download the patch in 3 different formats; zip, rar or 7z, just download the format you like, they all contain the same files:

Windows version:

UnrealPatch227fWin.zip
UnrealPatch227fWin.rar
UnrealPatch227fWin.7z

Window/Linux version:

UnrealPatch227fWinLin.zip
UnrealPatch227fWinLin.rar
UnrealPatch227fWinLin.7z

Obviously dont go post bugs here, but do that on the 227 forums from Old Unreal.

Happy installation everybody :)

This release is already "near final". I'd download it and give it a try if I were you.

It has full backwards compatibility so it shouldnt give any problems, as said for this update it will break with RTNP, which will have full support in the final version.

Maps made with 227 are only compatible with 227, but only if special 227 features have been used, and/or anything from Upack.

The other way around, maps made with 224, 225 or 226(not sure now, but will be) should be 100% compatible with 227.

Diehard,

Thanks Diehard. So, does what you say mean the added map packs will display with the high level 227 textures? My install of Unreal has been updated with 226f.

If you have 226f you wouldn't be able to run U227 maps since they use exclusive scripts.

I am not sure if i understand what you mean ?

But from what i think your saying, those are seperate things. Of course the 227 patch has updated renderers for OpenGL, D3D8 and D3D9 which enables you to see the S3TC(high resolution) textures. But of course you need to download those as well to enjoy them ingame. They are seperate downloads.

And yeah, if a map has textures in them that are also S3TC, than they should show up ingame. But its not like all textures all of a sudden apear as S3TC. Only the ones that have been upgraded so far by my URP project.

Lol, i hope thats the correct answer on your question?

I seem to suffer OpenGL skins disappearing on dynamic light problem as few other people..btw there is some beta stuff added in this release lol.

Also my Gott mod now works perfectly as it should and it does not break anything, thanks Smirftsch for listening to the suggestions.

Well except that the sounds in fmod or openal are too silent, even the vortex rikers skaarj scene.

Diehard and All,

OK, I'm confused. Tell me how I can use 227f. I have the original Unreal installed and updated to 226f. I have added many additional Unreal map packs. The original Unreal and all the added map packs work properly. What do I do now?

227f is just a patch like 226. Simply install it and don't bother, since everything else should work correctly. For now a 227-only SP mappack doesn't exist yet AFAIK.

Only that 227 is of course unofficial patch done by oldunreal.

UBerserker,

Just install it and all will work! Well, that's easy enough. I'll likely wait until the 227f becomes truly final. I'll feel more comfortable with the final, final version. I'd hate to get problems and then have to deal with something that I don't understand well. I'll be watching for it. Until then.

Needs to be said, 227 is almost final, but true its a beta.

But i have a good and simple solution for you :)

A) -On your C drive make a new folder called Unreal227, which would basically look like this: C:\Unreal227

B) -Than copy all the content from your C:\Unreal(Gold) and paste it into your C:\Unreal227

C) -Now run patch 227 and just make sure it patches C:\Unreal227

After that you still have your old Unreal, but also a patched 227 copy. Just start using the Unreal227. And if you encounter problems or anything you dont like, than go back to your C:\Unreal and throw the C:\Unreal227 in the recyclebin. If you dont see problems, stick to 227.

That way you can try patch 227 without altering your current Unreal, simple as that :)

Or make a new directory sharing the unreal tree. Like I have 226f installed in gold:
Paths=..\226Sys\*.u
By having exclusive 226f system directory and altering the paths...it works.

Leo, he already pointed out stuff like that is too complicated and too much hassle. That much that he already decided to not install it at all. Now you make something doable like a copy/paste complicated.

I know what your saying, and its obviously a nice gesture and helpfull, but not in this case.

Diehard and All,

I accepted your suggestion to copy all my stuff in Unreal to a new folder named Unreal227. I then downloaded 227f and installed it to folder Unreal227. So far, everything seems to be working well, including the custom maps that I had installed. The textures look very nice. I'd say it's a big improvement.

Thanks for the help,

Freddie

Well except that the sounds in fmod or openal are too silent, even the vortex rikers skaarj scene.

This is because 227f has implemented Attenuate sound, meaning that sound behind walls will be a bit quieter and muffled slightly instead of them being full blast. It's a common feature most games have.

However, I do believe the default is set to false, so maybe your drivers are just outdated, or your sound card is to old to support ALAudio, which can cause all sorts of problems (I had this on my old comp, same thing with some sounds being quieter....and that was with 227d or something lol)

EDIT: Nevermind, just learned that bSoundAttenuate is ON by defualt, so this is most likely your problem. It's under Audio --> ALAudio in Advanced Options if you want it turned off.
