I mean, come on IW, is it that difficult to retain balance WHILE staying true to what the hell these weapons DO in real life?

What burns be is how the Barrett .50 BMG does not kill, or at least incapacitate in one shot. That's a freaking big bullet for them to just walk it off. And if a one shot kill is too powerful than put it at the end of the sniper list and have people earn it to use it, or remove it from the game.
The problem, of course, is that CoD was never meant to be realistic (and with this latest game it certainly isn't balanced). Instant-hit bullets? Regenerating health? Very lax movement penalties to aim? There's not much there in terms of realism.

The reason the .50 sniper isn't a one-hit kill is because it doesn't work given the rest of the arcade nature of the game. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Either the game is totally realistic and the weapons follow from that or the game isn't realistic and thus the guns aren't realistic.

CoD is at its heart an arcade game with a realistic(-ish) setting. Nothing more, nothing less. I haven't played MW2 but it sounds like the differences between the weapons is mostly cosmetic (even more so than CoD4) -- which is just fine for an arcade game.

Plus, it makes the game easier to build (less time building and testing equals more time selling and profiting) and it has the added bonus of keeping people playing by convincing them they're playing for something worthwhile.

I can understand that its supposed to play like an arcade but even in arcades there are varying levels of power and you earn the more powerful stuff as you play. The .50 should be the most powerful straight away.

That gun fires the biggest bullets in the game outside of artillery and tank stuff. Even the mini-gun from the black-hawk fires a smaller bullet.

CoD is at its heart an arcade game with a realistic(-ish) setting.

There's a difference between taking an arcade approach to "realistic weapons", and completely jumbling up most weapons in the game without any care of preserving the realistic "feel" of the weapons themselves.

IW did the latter.

It's like they did the balancing like this: "Oh hey let's have all the COOOOL new guns in the world in our game.. Hmm, we need one to be inaccurate, highdmg and highrof, let's make that this one because it looks short."

Nothing new. I must join at least a couple of games a night with obvious cheats playing.

Love how when the entire server notices the cheat, we can't do anything about it other than stop the fun and leave for another server. (queue another ten minutes of trying to find and join a game successfully)

Damn, just finished an epic game. Marathon, Lightweight and Commando with my scar with heartbeat sensor is nasty.

finished off with 5 knives on their team and a throwing knife to the face for the winning kill :D

Commando is so ott it's stupid. But i love it.

Broke down and purchased this. Been playing online with Zer0 and SleepyHe4d. It's actually pretty fun. I've only run into the annoying issues related to listen servers occasionally.

I decided to dub the Call of Duty series "military fantasy," which I guess is like a step up from gun porn.

Game just doesn't want me to get a nuke srsly.

When i don't have it selected ill get a 25 or more streak. Earlier today i got a 28 only to figure out i took the nuke out of my kill streaks last night accidentally when i unlocked a new streak :/

Just now i got to an 11 streak and got my chopper gunner at which point i started pwning, i get 8 kills with it. And win the game because i got to the max points, was well on the way to a nuke too :(

ninjaedit:
and i got one \o/ with a 36 kill streak with some serious chopper gunner spawn killing abuse

It's hilarious until you get insanely tubed. The riot shield is so weak it's nearly useless. You can kill someone by shooting in their feets. And whilst moving slowly on-sides, the shield is nearly useless as your legs are mostly exposed to enemy fire. I'm talking by both personal and frag experiences.

It's not for extreme moving around, or to protect your sorry ass. Use it for your teammates, if it was strong who needs a team?

Learn to use the riot shield you noob.:)

The riot shield can be stupidly annoying, especially in modes such as domination/hq/etc where they just sit in a corner protecting the objective and you can't do anything with normal weapons.
