but thats not going to happen because they make a ****load of money out of consoles. every kid wants one, parents buy one because its "cheaper" than a pc and then buy 1 game for 70$ every week to silence the kid.

Crappy console ports is what 'killed' PC gaming. Or, specifically: developers ignoring the unique strengths of the PC platform -- mods and less censorship. There's almost certainly a solid niche market for games that offer an oldskool (UT99 style) custom(izable) experience, and take a big fat dump on political correctness.

But I do mean GTA3, GTA4 had some issues too, but those only affected a small percentage, and maybe not that related to the "porting" process.

Really? GTAIII had a pretty good port from what I recall. GTAIV had performance issues out of the box if I'm remembering right.

Okay, so what did I do wrong with my Radeon 4850?

I had played halfway through the game before the first patch came out and hadn't had any problems with the game...

The worst thing that happened to pc gaming was microsoft gettin in the console bussiness. In the past if u wanted to play games like mario or mortal kombat u went consoles and Quake, UT, Command and Conquer, etc PC now is a mess i cant understand a FPS with a controller is so slow paced unnatural. Even gamin in general is goin to suffer or doomed , because you know eventually Microsoft will win the console wars (with their big wallet supportin it) , takin sony and nintendo out of bussiness in the next generation or 2 . It is gonna end like a monopoly as the one u see in the OS market. Then we will have to forget about innovation, new ideas etc.

Care to explain? Other than the audio issue it was pretty damn fine.
They are pretty serious audio issues, the audio is so broken you might as well declare the game as broken. Pretty much everything you can imagine being broken with audio playback is suffered by various groups.
The severity of the broken audio clearly indicated very poor QA, thus, a bad console port.

GTA3 was quite a quick port to the PC, in fact it wasn't much more than a bit of polish on the development builds. However, most of the development system were very new and identical. So the game worked ok on brand new systems which had a similar configuration as the development systems. And this included using the same video drivers, same directx version. For therest GTA3 was still tuned to the PS2 gamepad input, which made mouse/keyboard control quite cumbersome. Rockstar learned from this, as was shown in vice City.
GTA4 for PC wasn't a great release either, I just gave 2 examples of real bad console ports (or, actually: bad development/qa process)

If consoles took any mouse and ran the firm ware and you could use a keyboard I would see few reason's to still have a PC for gaming.

Wrong. If consoles took any mouse and keyboard, their control scheme would be improved. They would still be crippled PCs, which can only run games and the manufacturers' severely limited operating systems/applications. As manufacturers keep expanding the functionality of console systems, they will increase steeply in price (ie PS3). And in the end, they will become just another brand to compete in the PC/operating system market, albeit marketed to connect to your TV. Look at Microsoft's strategy to integrate their Zune software with Xbox, blah blah. You're just playing by their rules on a console.

Also, at the UT3 consolish issue: If it was designed for consoles, as Kantham said, and as is apparent, then it was indeed a port onto the PC. Granted, it was marginally better than other current ports, but it was ported.

In order to qualify as a port it has to be BUILT for consoles and then ported to PC. If something like the interface was designed for consoles, that doesn't mean it was ported.

Just turn the sound all the way up. Sound isn't broken now.
