why we need firewalls?

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Hello
Firewalls are usually seen as a requirement if you are going to attach your network to other networks, especially the Internet. Unfortunately, some network administrators and managers do not understand the strengths a firewall can offer, resulting in poor product choice, deployment, configuration and management. Like any security technology, firewalls are only effective if the implementation is done properly and there is proper maintenance and response to security events.

Additionally, with the proper deployment of firewalls other security strategies are often much easier to integrate, such as VPNs and IDS systems. So what makes firewalls good, and what can you do to ensure they are used properly?

This... makes... no... sense...

It's copied from an article written on Internet.com in 2001 and was posted on some crappy network design business' site in 2004. That post was updated two months ago. And, six days ago it was posted on two other forums. And now this absolutely useless paragraph has landed on BuF.

There is only one explanation.

This is a powerful, evil paragraph.

Firewall? Just make sure you have no (unwanted) ports open and you're safe. Attackers can only connect if there are open ports. And if the application listening at the specific port is not actually vulnerable to any kind of attack, then there's no problem either.

why we need resurrect age old spam bot thread?

Hello
spam bots are usually seen as a requirement if you are going to attach your forum to other networks, especially the Internet. Unfortunately, some network administrators and managers do not understand the strengths a spam bot can offer, resulting in poor product choice, deployment, configuration and management. Like any marketing technology, spam bots are only effective if the implementation is done properly and there is proper maintenance and response to opportunity events.

Additionally, with the proper deployment of spam bots other marketing strategies are often much easier to integrate, such as virals and popOver&UnderTwice systems. So what makes spam bot good, and what can you do to ensure they are used properly?
