If even possible, how much will it cost?

As a New Yorker, I can tell you its not easy. I think there are still some gun clubs in downtown Manhatten that take walk ins and it does cost a **** load...no way is it worth it. Your better off spending the time and money going to a nice laid back jazz club, have a couple grey goose or bombay saphire martinis...it will be cheaper and youll have a better time. If you get a chance go to the Blue Note on West 4th street. I saw Miles Davis, Dizzie Gillespie and many others there...a legendary club and not that expensive...at least less than firing off a few at a gun club. My advice.

Edit: Im not really a Jazz guy, in fact I think the only jazzy cd I own is Norah Jones and a couple old timers (Dinah washington, Etta James etc.) Its a fun thing to do if you visit The big A, laid back good food, and just put your s h i tty face on...

I'm not sure if anyone does walk-ins in NY anymore. The one club I ever went to in New York was sponsor-only (had to be with someone who was in the club) but only cost 20$-30$ to fire.

Didn't some NY police departments used to have public gun ranges back in the day under the condition that your firearm was registered in New York or something?

Well, I admission fees are probably not that expensive, the rounds you fire can cost you though. What your talking about is exactly what I was thinking of, downtown there are a boatload of precincts and little stores and stuff...ranges too. Most of then require you to be NYPD to make a purchase. Just not sure how it works. I went a long time ago. Cant remember.

Here in CT, something like 100 or so rounds of .22 ammunition only costs a few bucks, usually about 20$ for the most expensive ammo. Not sure if those sort of things get taxed heavily in New York though; I dont think I've ever bought ammo in NY. Considering they where dumb enough to elect Hillary Clinton, I wouldn't be suprised if the same ammo cost twice, if not three times as much over there.

If you want to shoot, come to Dallas, Tx. You can rent and fire full auto machine guns here.:)

Of course, at my apartment complex here, no one does gun clubs. They just jump in the ditch out back and unload a couple of clips.

I may be wrong about this, but its my understanding that you have to have a pistol license before you're even allowed to touch a gun, let alone buy one.

And you have to be a resident (with political connections) to get a license.

EDIT
read this http://www.packing.org/state/new_york_city/

oh and this
in specific § 5-09
§ 5-09 Application for Pre-License Exemption. Each applicant desiring to obtain the
exemption set forth in New York State Penal Law § 265.20(a)(7-b), allowing pre-license
possession of a handgun for the purpose of possessing and using a handgun for
instructional purposes with a certified instructor in small arms at an authorized small
arms range/shooting club, shall make such request in writing to the Division Head,
License Division at the time the application for a handgun license is filed. Such request
shall include a signed and verified statement by the person authorized to instruct and
supervise the applicant, that s/he has met with the applicant and s/he has determined that,
in her/his judgment, said applicant does not appear to be or pose a threat to be a danger to
her/himself or others. S/he shall include a copy of her/his certificate as an instructor in
small arms, if s/he is required to be certified, and state her/his address and telephone
number. S/he shall specify the exact location by name, address and telephone number
where such instruction shall take place. The Division Head, License Division shall, no
later than ten (10) business days after such filing, commence an investigation and
ascertain whether the applicant has a criminal record. The Division Head, License
Division shall no later than ten (10) business days after the completion of such
investigation determine if the applicant has been previously denied a license, been
convicted of a felony, been convicted of a serious offense as defined in Penal Law
§ 265.00(17), been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, as defined in
§ 921(a) of Title 18 of the United States Code, been the subject or recipient of an order of
protection or a temporary order of protection, been the subject of a suspension or
ineligibility order issued pursuant to § 530.14 of the New York State Criminal Procedure
Law or § 842-a of the New York State Family Court Act, or appears to be, or poses a
threat to be, a danger to her/himself or others, and either approve or disapprove the
applicant for exemption purposes based upon such determinations. If the applicant is
approved for the exemption, the Division Head, License Division shall notify the
applicant. Such exemption shall terminate if the application for the license is denied, or
at any earlier time based upon any information obtained by the Division Head, License
Division which would cause the application to be rejected. The applicant shall be notified
of any such rejection.

Wow! NYC can suck my a**!

You have a better chance of being able to visit a range while visiting London, Sidney or Pyongyang for chrissakes.

I tell you what if you ever visit my fair city (Colorado Springs) I'll show you a place where you can rent anything up to machine guns and the only ID you'll be required to provide is if you're paying with a check (or if you appear under 18 ... in which case having an adult with you would be fine).
