I swear my average fps on 640x480 with dynamic lightening and decals off, does not differ from the fps when I play on 1024x786 with those settings on. It is still 25-30 on average. For a good gameplay I need at least 40 fps. I cannot understand what is going on.

Can someone explain to me this nonsense.

My system:
amd-k6-2-355mhz-3dnow
128mb RAM
Voodoo3 2000 pci
T1 connection

I encounter this problem probably in any fps game I play (except for q3). First of all I have to mention that I previously had vedio chip built in my motherboard, but now that I have voodoo3 bios autodetected the card, and that is the one I use. The probelm is POOR PERFORMANCE, 25 fps on average. The intersting thing though, is that this average fos does not change no matter if I am at 640x480 or 1024x786 resolution. And it even does not change if I turn off the dynamic lightening and decals. That makes me thing that something prevents my card from working as fast as it can. Another thing I noticed, my fps drops down dramatically when I have a lot of players on the screen. I have the latest drivers from 3dfx.

If anyone can tell me what is going on, I would be very greatful. Or if there are any other people with the same sytem as I have, please write what kind of settings and performance do you all get?

And finally, how do you access advanced option in UT. I tried everything and still cannot find it.

Appriciate the help.

Having problems with my v3 3K as well pard.

I finally uninstalled UT and put it back and seems to be working better for me..SO FAR!

As for the advanced features, here's how to go about it bro :

1) Once in the main page of UT, hit the "tab" key and it brings up a window. Type in "preferences"(without the quotes) and that should get it for ya.

Only a couple things I can even think of:

355Mhz? What bus speed and multiplier are you using? I can't find a legit combination.

If you can get 25fps on a K6-2 at 1024x768 you're doing pretty well.

Make SURE you are using GLIDE in UT.

I honestly don't know how you're not seeing a difference between 640x480 and 1024x768. I know I go from 50fps at 1024x768 to 70fps at 800x600. I can't imagine 640x480.

You could try and run DXDiag - it might help. (Start -> Run -> DXDIAG).

You can use the forum search to find out other people's specs:

There's a lot of posts with specs and fps but I'll give you the short of mine:

V3 3000 AGP
1024x768 - High Details
50fps AVG

Celeron 400
V3 3000 AGP
1024x768 - High Details
30fps AVG

I see (almost) no difference either with my new Cel500 and V770 Ultra on 800x600 16 bit vs. 1024x768 32 bit it is like 35 fps/34 fps or sumfin. But maybe that is because it is Direct3D.

Just waiting for 406 (overall D3D performance boost) which will arrive sometime soon.
