Been working on this one for a month and some weeks i think

[SCREENSHOT]http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/8285/amphitrite7.jpg[/SCREENSHOT]

This map is supposed to be very dark. Although the lighthing is very early, you can already notice that...

[SCREENSHOT]http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/7469/amphitrite8.jpg[/SCREENSHOT]

The original idea was to make a darkmatch-like map that would be a base underwater. I think i am doing pretty well with that :) everything still very early, despite the 5k static meshes  Currently the name of the map is DM-Amphitrite, google the name for further details on it's meaning :)

Wow nice Choco. That's very uniquely shaped and all that. Though you got to expect a lot of problems with the user-end brightness. Trust me this is not going to be funny.

Here's what I'm working on for gears.

Choco, that environment looks awesome.

What happens when you cross a chainsaw and a bsp builder brush?

It looks rather silly right now, so it'll be fixed up a bit yet.

I'm really liking the "architecture" you've got so far, though I don't see the background sky fitting too much, but I also get this is an early wip, so...
What are you planning to do for the color scheme of the darkmatchy lights? cause even though the red from the original one was good, some variation would be kick ass.

Good work :)

I've always had nightmares about flying staircases that would hunt me down and so on, ****...
Looks promising though. But I'd also have to say that palm, green and red trees do not fit well together, imo they look like ass in the same garden
Palms do not go well with that kind of classy antique architecture, so I'd go more with the redish trees; :2thumb:

Well, you probably won't see the skydome anyway, imagine it just like AS-OceanFloor, you'll just see a blured Sun coming from above, that's what i had in mind.

As for the color schemes, i was initially planing having yellow-ish lights on these buildings and everywhere just to give a basic illumination, then i'll probably be exeperimenting with some blue-ish lights to give a more underwater look and now that i'm thinking about, some red lights would look good also, maybe in the areas that are flooded to give a feel of danger. Starting a battle underwater or just swiming on the flooded areas could be very dangerous :) I have mentioned it on the epic forum when i posted some screens that i want the map to interact with the player, think of a giant machine with artificial intelligence trying to kill you, something like that.

thanks for the comments :D here is some more advancement :
I'm working on the foliage at the moment; I also tweaked the lightning a bit, I though it was too bright. Let me know what you think about the mood :D

Interesting...

Just not a fan of the lighting, not sure if that is temp or the direction you are going in.

It's true that Gears 1 had very little color. That's not to say that community designers have to follow that mantra of gray to make a proper Gears map...

I'm curious to hear what makes you thin the lighting isn't too good. It's not a temp thing. I tried to give it more contrast, but the characters just got even more silly, you got to keep a decent smoothness otherwise the characters will look 100% dark from the opposite of the sunlight.

They fixed that in Gears 2. :hmm:
