Techincal: Extremely cool image colorisation stuff

G'Damn! That is some amazing stuff if it were true. With but a few gestural strokes they can colorize movies? It would take hours to do that in photoshop, delinating edges and masking sections to prevent overflow. Cool technology, not the most useful (who films in greyscale?) but the gestural/edge detection bit is pretty nifty and belongs in some high-end graphics platform.

It is true. I got this result in a few seconds with the default color in mspaint's toolbar. Obviously, more work was needed to obtain the result they had, but it's still amazing.

Ron Fedkiw scares me. I have no idea how you would even start to animate fire.

edit: for those that didn't figure it out, the 4th image is the original picture in color.

The link is on the webpage linked in the first post. However, you'll need MatLab. If you have access to MatLab, it probably means you can figure it out yourself (run the colorize.m script).
