Often when I load up UT I find there won't be any sound, I'll quit and restart it, no problem... any ideas?

Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. I've never encounter, nither do I know someone who did, this problem. I'm using a G3/128... but with OS 8.5.1 (Yes, not even 8.6!!!!!!)
My first guess would be the "9" in your OS... OS 9 is young and many bugs are still present...
