I'm playing CTF on pubs every now and then and sometimes you so all kind of lameness but I try to work against the worst at least and ignore the rest 'cause I want to have time play a little at least.
Now, there is one thing that I don't really understand, this thing about "my flag". It happens that our FC going down and if I'm around I of course pick up the flag and carry on. Then the original FC start yelling about "That is MY flag." Uh? I thought this was a TEAM game? I don't get it, what's so freaking important about who caps? Do they count the frag points? Gee, next time it is me who is down and they take over the FC position. I never get the flag back then (well, I've never asked) so it should even up.

Can someone explain this?

Well, some people care to much about the scoreboard. You know, you got 7 points for a cap.
This happens to often on pubs, players don't play for team only for their own points.
I hope the next generation of the unreal series have other ways to count the scores, especially in teamgames such as ctf.

But I tell you, the opposite happens too, they guy who pick up the flag gives it back if you are near the base and no enemies are around. :)

in a pub game i can get pretty bitchy in situations like that.

yes and no it is a team game..yes it really is, no team no win, but if you are winning, by a lot and just capping for fun, if i carry i want it.

now if it's a close game grab and cap all you want, i want the win not the points.

of course, if the base is uncrowded and the FC gets sniped from across the map ten feet away from the flag, ill hold it for him untill he gets inside to make the cap, i always just hope people do the same for me.

the other irritating thing is if you carry the flag clear back in the base, die by the flag, a teamate grabs and caps, which is cool, but never says something like..."nice run" or something like that, it irks me.

the way i see it, grab the flag and head into the base every time you see it drop, depending on the situation you can either cap right away or hold it for a few seconds, either way there really is no need to get flamed for capping.

Hmm, the same reason as very few people wants to play as defence I guess.

(Ok, I admit it IS a thrill to attack, get the flag and try to survive the looong way home. I just wished that people could switch their positions a little bit more. I'm naive.)

I will think about comment "nice run" or something like that if I cap somebody else's flag pick up next time. Haven't done that so far because to me it's not an issue.

I totally agree with you Kliw. When it happens to me that someone starts to bitch like that I usually starts ROFL so I end up killed and loose the flag :D Its a teamgame FFS!

It happens quite often on pubs that I get to homebase with the flag and I am so low on healt that I xloc to let someone else carry the flag while we retrieve our own flag. When I drop the flag usually the other players just run around the flag, looking at it and at me wondering why the hell I just xloced :D They don't seem to have seen anything like that before :) What is weird is that I almost always play on Gamepoints CTF servers that are packed with top Euro clanners :)

Naa, it's not weird, P_S. They're not used to FC's running low on health. :p

Thats what I do. If PlayerA grabbed te flag and got it half-way home before he dies and I pick it up, I give the flag back to PlayerA so he can cap.

I wouldn't drop the flag if there were enemies around, so if the base is infested, I know he'd rather I get the cap, than having no caps at all. Same with me.

if its safe to cap and the orgianl FC is around i usaully drop it, however if 6 buggers are on me and base is in state of panic its either cap it or lose it. they want to bitch they'll make theirslefs look like idiots basically.

I have gotten into the habit recently of dropping the flag for the defense to cap with, as long as there is no pressing danger of attack... not only does it allow you to prepare for another flag run a little bit faster but also I think it is good for morale.

I had the same thing happen to me, he said that's my flag so with his rocket launcher and redeemer and shock (I was playing on Facing Worlds) he shot his redeemer at ME (and he was on MY TEAM) then because of the impulsion it thruw me off of the map!!!! I said bad things I swared my head off!!!! His name was DarkSpirit!!!!! It happened yesterday. Then he didn't want to stop, but with my rocket launcher I did the same thing it thruw him off. But still after that he continued. Then I just gave up, I disconnected from that server! I think that was the right thing to do! : mad:

If you're good, the points will come. I've gotten to the point where I'll make a flag run all the way back to my base and then drop the flag, just so someone else can cap. I try to give the flag to a noob so he/she can get the points. Nothing makes my day like seeing a noob with the high score. I just think it's funny. :p

My thoughts are that the flag's the feggin flag, it goes to our flag the team gets a point. I cannot understand the whole wanting to get your cap as KliwX was saying, if i get the flag to base, even if i die, i'm happy, my job was done, (same if i cover the FC).

But hey, it's a pub thing, maybe they think that scores matter...

If the flag needs cappin'... I cap it. Who cares who brought it in? Why feck around and wait for the enemy to recover? Or worse, if you have a team member waiting by their flag stand to grab the enemy flag as soon as you cap it... you just waste time by fooling around with worrying who brought it in.

Only if no enemy is in sight will I drop it for the respawned FC.

I enjoy this game far to much to not be a good sport... If our FC gets killed and I pick the flag up and he comes to give me cover I WILL give him the flag back for a capture. But if the circumstances aren't right and the clock is ticking I will cap it myself...

If I work really hard to make a grab, and have to do a lot of fighting to get out of the enemy base, then yes, I want my flag back if I die close to my base. Same if I am really low on points (say between -5 and 5). This works the other way around too, if I pickup someone elses flag and he's near & the base is relatively safe, I'll return it to him.

Best thing that ever happened to me on a pub, someone l33t returning the flag to me when I died high on the stairs of November (very close to actually capping). :)

I'm with Hal.
If I make it out of the enemy base, killing spree on the way home, and our base is empty, but a sniper nails me right before I cap, SCREW IT! TEAM! GO CAP THAT BAD BOY. I did my job!

Now if our flag is gone, and I have to wait/defend, I have/will give the flag to someone else or the orignal carrier, if he's around, and go get ours back...or try to.
Also, man, sometimes things get pretty hectic sometimes! I may not even know WHO had the flag, originally. I always try to say "nice run" (even to the opposing team) but most times, unless you are escorting, how do you know it WAS a good run? What if you just walked it out, unmolested? :)

I really don't see what's so important about who scores the flag. I can die next to my flag while in possession of the ennemy flag, and the only thing I expect is that someone pick it up and score it immediately. Just because I picked up the flag doesn't mean I'm special. If someone has covered my ass all the way from the ennemy base to my own base, why shouldn't he score the flag if I die on the way back ? And if I made it all alone, and I am unfortunate enough to die next to my flag pole, why shouldn't a defenser score the flag ? I mean, picking up the flag is no more important that doing the cover, defending the base, or midfielding cleverly, there is absolutely no reason to lose time, cap the damn flag, and let's work on the next one. Well, that's how I see CTF anyway.
