Ok I missed the beginning of the discussion... but I just wanted to point out that, as a almost-carnivorous-anti-vegi being, I wouldn't even get close to a petry vase grown steak. I don't think that there will ever be a good way to go around the process of "growing" a cow, feeding it and making it do exercise to grow muscle.

I dont think the point of growing meat is to enjoy the meat, there's no way they can emulate the texture of a good steak, the point is that it is a cheaper way to feed the masses.

I'd want to know two things.

1) How does it taste?

Cause...if they can make as juicy and tender as the top, prime cut rib meat, and only cost $0.69 cents a pound...

Yeah, I'd convert.

So what if it was grown in a vat? That means lots of GOOD things.

1) Much less chance of bacterial contamination. There *are* no guts to spill out over the cutting floor, contaminating the meat.

2) Consistant quality. 'Factory' produced conditions would hint that they could make about the same texture and flavors every time. If they get a good combo, and it tastes and nourishes just like the bovine-grown version, but is cheap to produce? Awesome.

3) It's not like our meat isn't mass made nowadays anyway. This way, those damn hippie-vegies could stop complaining so much, cause there *would* be an alternative.

4) Healthier. You wouldn't have veins, arteries, bone, fat pustules, or bovine growth hormone to deal with (assumingly...it'd probably be some other, nasty hormone).

At best, you're looking at a consistantly good steak. At worst, the chicken nuggets you get from your local fast food place might ... well ... :D

Again proving that there is a System of a Down song for every occasion....

Making two possibilities a reality,
Predicting the future of things we all know,
Fighting off the diseased programming
Of centuries, centuries, centuries, centuries.

Science fails to recognize the single most
Potent element of human existence
letting the reigns go to the unfolding
Is faith, faith, faith, faith.

Science has failed our world
Science has failed our Mother Earth.

Sometimes, I believe that there isn't a band more annoying than 'System of a Down'...

Then, I remember - 'Good Charlotte' still exists...
