To My Mother, Because I Can't
Say It Any Other Way
Part II

the gulf widens.
i bite my lip and try
not to cry
how could you be so prejudiced?
it's just like they say
but it's not over yet
falling
dying
headstones in a dead grass field
i fire the gun
but somehow it's pointed at me
my star of hope is falling, fading -
how could i be so blind?
and still i hold the blade,
clinging desperately
to that which is killing me
it's so hard to prove
when the evidence is my own
and i'm the only witness
how i survive
i know not
still sliding,
but learning to stand
the darkest hour is just before dawn

darkness soothing silencing sweet
as if the stillness echoing emptiness
might be real
of course it's not real, silly child
put your schoolday games away
you live in the real world now
there's no place for that here
nighttime calming bouncing nerves
to think that it might endure
alone whispers, "to think!"
what a stupid thought, my silly child
imagine and your vision will fade
as so many before you have
yet who can say there will not yet
be so many more after?
memory's curse, a parting gift
from a friend as dear as night
if only you knew!
what pain you have caused with
that memory.
silly child, don't you see?

The cat I ate
regurgitate
the colors are astounding
a time ago
a spicy thai show
furry in my tummy
hunger comes
soon after loss
and the show begins again
the cats meow
and good thai chow
the food that makes me hungry

I dunno. I never really had to work on it, it just came naturally. and I have NO idea where in my kind hearted soul all these things about death and destruction came from
