anyway, {318}foo! is cool. anyone who says hi to me when i hit a server is cool. and i remember asking {318}poke to balance the teams on a face server once. his response was, "geez, hobart, can't you do anything without me? ". heh. needless to say, our team kicked some major buttage after that. having a {318} on your side when playing face is never a bad thing.

i think the reason most of the l33t players get pissed off on servers is because they don't like to die. especially not to newbies. maybe it's a gut reaction from playing dm or something. me, i don't really care if i die or not so i don't get pissed when i get killed by a newbie. everyone gets a chance to kill me sooner or later.

my feeling is that there's way too much generalization going on here on both sides. just look at the title of this thread. you're pretty much dissing on a whole clan here and i don't think that's really fair. especially since this clan is being talked about behind it's back. if someone had a real problem with nightfall, they should post in the gf board at unreality at least. but the purpose of this thread was SPECIFICALLY for puf people to talk about a non-puffer in a disparaging way. maybe it's warranted, but it's still bad form.

Well, he didn't say all of GF was like that ... in fact he was hoping they all weren't ... that's not dissing the whole clan, IMO.

Well, it's a public forum, so it's not totally behind their backs. Plus, there are so many forums out there ... how many people actually know there's a GF board at Unreality? Plus, I doubt Alarion would have gotten a fair jury posting something like this on GF's own board.

I don't know that his non-PuFness had anything to do with it ... it was just someone complaining about llama-like behavior on a server, isn't it done all the time?

i didn't mean to pick on alarion or anything. didn't even realized that he started this thread. i guess i just don't like us vs. them types of arguments. i just got the feeling that russian was kinda the outsider here being picked on by the puf "in" crowd. granted, i don't really agree with any of his arguments, but i don't want to see him used as the embodiment of all l33t ut players with bad attitudes, either. how many people have never played him on a server and yet are here dumping all their issues with random other people on him??

it's bad to generalize newbies, but it's just as bad to generalize "l33t clanners"...

Jim - I haven't played you so I can't comment, but you come across like a real whiney high ping player... I can't stand them (if you are not just disregard this). It is simply a fact of life that everyone has different connection speeds. Deal with it. It is not someone else's fault that they have a better one than yours. It is your fault. You either have the option to get a better connection (if available) or to simply stop playing.

Should we perhaps prance around the maps checking our F1 screen to see who has a higher ping than ourselves, then cut them some slack proportional to how much higher the ping is? Perhaps you could work out a formula for this - or even make it into a mod.

If someone pays good money for a high speed connection they should not feel like they are not allowed to play the game to the best of their abilities. If you feel like you would do better against the player on equal terms then good for you, but if you have to say it you are just like some clan member carrying on about how good he is. Play the game to the best of your abilities with what you have, or leave.

We are in a state of transition right now, where more and more people are switching to faster access... there is nothing to be done about this.

But complaining will not change the way everyone plays, if all your doing is blowing off steam then that is all good, but if you really think that change will come from words then here is a large lesson in life:

Never do what you are complaining about, always show great sportsmanship (in whatever way you define it) and it will eventually rub off on a few. You will NEVER change everyone, or even a large majority of everyone, the best you can hope for is to show others a great time and in the end have them do the same for another.

When someone does something that you hate, yelling at them: "Your such a fag, you know that doesn't take any skill" will only make them go on the defensive, closing their mind, and in most cases they will ONLY kill you the same way the rest of the game. Now if you could just be a fukin grown up and eat the schit that they are throwing at you and in the end throw up a nice "gg" you've not let them control your emotions and they have not drawn a reaction out of your for their perceived lameness. You see, real as$holes of the world feed off controlling others, they purposefully do things that irritate people so they can control your emotional state. The real problem lies in that most people allow them to do just that. I even fall for it sometimes. (but not often since I'm neigh perfect)

Okay here goes. I doubt this will sit well with some of you so.. Just grin and bear it okay?

I agree with Jim a bit here. We get upset because people use a tactic that others feel is "lame" or doesn't require "skill" blah blah blah...

BUT

The game is designed the way it is, and people are going to exploit or use it any way they want. Ifyou want to get upset at someone, email Tim Sweeney or CliffyB and let them know that you don't like a specific design choice.

Spawn killing is lame, but it's easy to do in UT (there are a lot of lame things that you can do). Don't blame the lamer using that tactic, blame the game design.

If the game allows it, people are going to do it.

What I was saying is that I bitch about my life mostly. I also said that I don't call people so and so's without a reason. I mentioned my comments to contrast "personal" attacks by some. (Kravnos, just moments ago at Swine was specing and taunting a newbie to quit because he wasnt good enough. Kravnos wanted the guy to leave so Kravnos could play. Rude). Sure I'm whiney. Whiney about my s****y connection. I just hate having to fight my connection and talented players. Why would I blame someone else for my connection?

I stand by what I said. Players are being pitted against each other because of design decisions. It can be very frustrating and sometimes people say something, maybe the wrong thing. I'm more concerned with what people do not say.

Cookie, Cookie, Cookie. So shoot me. No wait, shoot Hobart. I REALLY enjoy playing with Foo! and his boys, whatever their number is. (Actually I wrote that post at the end of the day as I was leaving work. Shhhhh. My boss doesn't know).

These posts are becoming so quoted that they are beginning to resemble legal briefs.
