How will Micro$oft handle X-box emulators and/or Roms

How about an emulator like Bleem that still requires you to have a game disc? Or just flat out Rom trading?

Seeing that Bleem survived legal blasts from the relatively large Sony.... and the continued existence of the other console emulators.

I doubt this will happen. Not many people will even have the computer power to run a Xbox game on their PC. For one if you dont have a GeForce 3 or better or already out of luck right their. your also have to have a DvD drive. It would be more expensive buying a emulator and upgrading your PC to play the Xbox games then it would be to just go out and get a Xbox ($300)

All the GeForce 3's are abouy $300+ and a DvD drive I dont know how much that goes for. And then installing the games would require a huge amount of hard drive space to, I believe most Xbox games are over 3gigs.

Nice try. But that's covered as well. Essentially, the DMCA and it's British equivalent have taken away your ability to use a product as you see fit, even if it normally comes under the "Fair Use" clause of International Copyright Law.
In the UK, arresting someone for emulating a gaming console on their PC comes very low on most police department's list of priorities. They'll usually only act on larger operations.

On a side note, saying the XBox is just a "specialised PC in a console box" is a gross generalization. A TiVo is closer to a standard PC than a XBox is, but hey, don't let me rain on the parade of bandwagon "its teh sux0rs" comments.
Where did I say the Xbox sucks? I was simply putting forward a "theory of emulation", so to speak. Maybe it's impossible to emulate Xbox games on a PC in that way, who knows? Looking at the Xbox specs, they seem pretty close to a PC to me.

Every console is similar to a PC

stop saying Xbox is the only console that is just like a PC.

They all have a hard drive, they all have a CPU, they all have RAM.

The Xbox has everything, everyother console has, just bigger and better.

and dont tell me PS2 doesnt have a hard drive, if you can save infomation on it and you can, then it does.

Alright, I'll say it anyways: The PS2 does not have a hard drive.

In fact the XBox is the only console to have an actual hard drive included as standard to date (there have been add-on harddrive kits as far back as the SNES).

However, it's not the first console to have a built in Non-volitile memory (ie "doesn't go *poof* when you turn the power off") of somesort.

The XBox uses many standard PC compatible parts, along with even more custom built embedded hardware, which is where the PC comparisons come in.

The DMCA doesn't go that far, afaik. UCITA (already passed in some states) and SSSCA take the next step, though.

The problems will only be for users in the "Land of the Free." OSS development would simply move to less... encumbered countries. :hmm: I wouldn't be surprised if Linus and other high-profile developers moved out of the USA if the Corporate Government actually tried to enforce some stupid DRM stuff.

Nor the movie (MPAA) industry...

I don't suppose there's any point to ranting about it. Whether people are aware of it or not, they can hardly avoid funding MPAA, RIAA, Sony, et. al. Care to never see Matrix II, or never listen to your favorite music artist? Me neither.

ps2 does NOT have a hard drive. It uses a memory card(NOT the same thing).

Although there IS a hard drive coming for the ps2(about 40GB) in a few months.

Xbox is the closet to a PC out of the newer consoles because it uses parts you'd find in a normal PC(Geforce, hard drive, n-Force chipset, etc.)

I'm sure someone will try to emulate ALL of the consoles at some point or another.

I hope this legal crap doesn't get any worse(but like SC said it most likely will. :( )

Too bad Bleem went out. :(

It's supposedly so you can quick load large games like Final Fantasy 10. It will pretty much copy the DVD to the hard drive and you won't have to switch discs or wait on DVD load times.

I probably won't be getting one. I'm not THAT impatient.
