plus, if you download it over steam, you can only play it with an existing, and active connection to steam, so you can't install it on your laptop and play wireless, and if your connection goes down for whatever reason, you're don't get to play.

No, Half-life 2 was always known to come out. It was Duke Nukem Forever that is never coming out.

Vivendi has always wanted control of games the second they go popular. That is why Dynamix was shut down shortly after Tribes 2 was released. Vivendi (at the time sierra studios) saw that they could make a lot of money off of completely owning the rights to the series, so they killed off the company that made it and took all the credit and money made from Tribes 2.
