Getting a texture from Maya to UnrealEd

Someone correct me.

I have recently figured out how to move models from Maya 4.5 to Unreal and link the parts of the model to textures in unreal. What I would like to do is make a texture in Maya, and export it to unreal. Is that possible?

Here's what I'm currently doing. First, I make a texture in Photoshop and import it as a file into Maya, using that as a texture. If I like what I see, I import (from Photoshop) to Unreal, then create a URMaterialName for the texture in Maya and link the texture to the texture in Unreal.

Is there an easier way of doing this?

if you're using the MayaPLE version bundled with UT2K3, from what i've learned, what you are doing is the most efficient process. texture export from the full Maya version may be a different matter, though. i've only used PLE myself.
