AS-Mothership was originally planned to be more difficult?

Listening to some of the sounds in the AnnouncerAssault.uax package, it seems like AS-MotherShip was originally planned to have a few more objectives than the version that was released...

mothership_brief11: "Two more sentinels await you beyond the forcefield."
mothership_brief12: "Destroy these sentinels and the core blast door will be released."
mothership_brief13: "Once past the sentinels, proceed left or right to destroy the gravity generators."
mothership_brief14: "Paths once impassible are now clear."

Hmm, actually I remember reading something about turning off the gravity in a preview. It may have been IGN's, but I don't have time to go searching for something stupid like this right now anyway.

It's too bad, they probably cut it out because the dogfighting portion of the level was taking up too much time. IMO they should've changed the ratio of fighters or something instead so that breaching the damn ship wasn't so hard in the first place. :rolleyes:

I really like the level, but those ships just make it impractical for anything resembling serious play. Another possibly great level confined to the status of "gimmick level" forever. *Sigh.* At least somebody should make a kickass level with the texture set, I think it looks really slick.

In my opinion its plenty difficult enough already, at least in single player, i've no desire to play it online at all. :p A bit boring too, you can't even see the spacefighters until you are right on top of them. I felt like I was playing Penatrator while trying to reach the power cores. "Smash the green dots deep inside the mysterious red square!"

Getting the knack of this map just totally eluded me and it took me at least 10-15 some odd attempts to complete it on only Experienced. Having even more objectives though? No thanks, unless you add on another 5-10 minutes. :p

MS would have been cooler without the space ships, even then though i still think it would be the wosrt AS map without them. Aside from the crappy ships (no fun dogfighting with crappy lock on missles, and wow look at my skill spamming around in circle to avoid them with ease) the inside has some real bad parts.... worst choke point in a AS map by far, and those healable sentinels almost ruin the map alone. I dont think the attackers have EVER won that map, its all up to the defenders to lose it, that sentinel area is just too damm easy to defend that you cant mess it up without sucking hard ass.

I would actually love to see a good mothership remake without the crap parts. New ships, with a bit better obj and weapon loadout setups (hey guys lets be stupid ****s and give the defenders rl's in every map) it could be hella cool... MS was the first map i loaded up in ut2k4... and the one i was most excited about... funny to see it end up being the worst map with ut2k4.

When I first got Unreal Tournament 2004, I expected AS-Mothership to be a lot more "Star Wars" like...

There just aren't enough people...even with 32 people, going out in spaceships and fighting each other just isn't that interesting...

But I like those objectives, Hyrulian Hero!
