HardOCP is running a story that Dell will be shipping new XPS systems without any preinstalled crap on them. This is after HardOCP gave Dell hard criticism in an article from last December about their "bloatware" (as HardOCP called it) interfering with the installation of some popular 3D games (which can be found here).
It seems that Dell has taken our criticism (and our readers as well) to heart and has made the much sought after move to offer select XPS systems with “limited” pre-installed software. We phoned a Dell sales representative late Monday, and he confirmed that the installation is completely clean, except for the included anti-virus program. As explained to us by Dell, There is no AOL installation, no “media jukebox”, and no ISP offers to weigh the supplied operating system down.
Dell is also running a banner on their XPS site that says "You spoke, we listened." with the subtext "Select XPS(tm) Systems now with limited pre-installed software." This can only mean good things as Dell tries to make their entry into newly acquired Alienware's territory. You can find the HardOCP article here.

Wow.. I was surprised to read this.. for a second. Anyone who buys from Dell should know better, a company that charges loads of money only for shipping and sues people whose mere fault was to put their real name ("Dell") into their net addresse :)

Well, you can only encourage it, tough the banner smells more like a cheap publicity stunt then anything else...

Of course it was a cheap publicity stunt. But... eh... companies offering less bloatware... for the industry, must be better ne? Granted, I still would never touch a Dell with a twelve foot pole, but I mean they have CUSTOMERS right? So this is good news for those weirdos.
