Somebody posted their first- ever weapon mod over at INA, and per usual it's an overblown Wheeeeee! gun. However, the mechanics are quite interesting.
It's a modded shock rifle, but the altfire is an explosive plasma projectile. The cool thing about this projectile is mainly its speed... it's way faster than just about any of the projectiles in UT04 (except possibly flak shards, dunno for sure). Unfortunately it's got heavy splash damage on impact, so it's not like you have to go for the direct hit... although at that speed the dh isn't hard to pull off. And it looks cool, to boot.
I'm thinking about asking the guy if he'll let me trick it out a little further so as to make the projectile a little faster yet and with no (or very, very little) splash associated. Still, it's kind of fun to watch the thing in action and wonder about a possible all- projectile UT04 from an alternate universe or somesuch. I thought some of you projectile mavens might get a chuckle out of it.
As a bonus, it's freakin' hilarious when used with the Arena mutator.
