This thread is about greatness in your own country.

Things that are unique to your homeland.

Heheh, I shall now give you a whirlwind tour of my Hometown; Reading. Pronouced Red-ing. :) Which is located in the South-east of England, an hours drive west of London.

In Reading you can sample the local culture:

Come visit France ! The last communist country in the whole (extended) Europe ! Where dissent is the national sport ! We have more history and culture than is sane for a single country ! With our own bloody civil wars, repression and torture in ex-colonies, even ! The country that lives in higher standing and helps poor nations more than it can afford ! Where you need a state-issued licence for doing anything !

great things about my country...

a national health service and (relatively) cheap higher education for all. (ive read a few posts here that make me so glad of both these things).

more specifically i live in nottingham, home to robin hood, little john, and that pesky sheriff!

oh. and it seems that we have a high ratio of women to men

That's the point. For us dutchies they're the same old canals (I still love em though) but there isn't a place in the world that looks like it, and the tourists love it... :)

but ok some other stuff found here:

The FlevoPolder(click pics for info!)

(the coffeeshop text on the image is a coincidence, I googled for flevoland I swear!)

The Donkervoort (click pic for info!)

0-60Mph under 4 secs!

Hutspot (click pic for recipe!)

One of the best Dutch foods, traditionally eaten on the evening of "Leids ontzet" mainly in the city of Leiden, both my parents come from Leiden so we eat this every year on 3 october. :)

oh and: :dutch: :dutch: :dutch:
