i liked assault racing. crazy me huh? well, i would like a racing (not assault racing) gametype for UT2007. Since it is a tournament, racing would be a natural type of play. If Epic did it right it could be a very popular and fun type. There could be separate vehicles, or the default vehicles. In my vision, its like Burnout with guns, in skytracks thousands of feet in the air. Crazy me huh? well i figured i'd share my idea with you all, hope you dont hate it too much

Doesnt seem very UT-ish.. There is always unwheel for racing, Im sure there will be a 2007 one. And if it is already possible in assualt, why make a whole new gametype?

Assault race maps are right up there with the biggest piles of crap ever created. I wish they'd take out vehicles altogether, but that's just me.

How about people making custom maps for racing? Some assault maps play like a race map. It would be nice having some maps being really speed oriented, so there would be competitions amongt the conquest community in getting the quickest instant action completion of a conquest map. I'd also like to see the hammer jump or some real movement brought back into assault. Assault was too dampened in ut2k4.

I'm not sure about having a seperate gametype for racing. I don't know why there would need to be a seperate gametype specifically for racing other than it being easier to find a server that runs a racing oriented map rotation in the server browser. Speed oriented maps and gametypes are fun and I'd like to see more speed put into the next ut.

I enjoy trial maps and racing map running servers. It feels coop and it's real fun when people are on ut2k4's builtin voip. It's the only time ut2k4 voip isn't annoying and is actually worth enabling.

I agree. There should be a racing mode, with one map- a simple circuit.

Then; when somebody wants to play assault, they won't be innundated with assault maps that aren't assault maps at all, and totaly distort assault stats.

I always found racing games hard to control on keyboards. I think racing type games/gametypes should be kept to consoles only.

racing does not mean only vehicules!
I think that some training/tutorial arenas for tricks and quick moves could be based on a racing concept... IMO that could make sense, and that could be a challenge to improve your moves if the best times could be recorded and displayed in the stats pages. Even the best players could then see where they stands concerning their moves. I think that could be a nice way to introduce some tutorials for moves and vehicules and why not weapons too. let s imagine that you need to shoot at a flying target with your lightning to make a door open for instance... this way you train with weapons too.
I would then like to have some tracks where boost-, side boost-, hammer-, lift- and wall jumps would means the difference between an average and a top time.

I like your idea where you can get better at moving around

if there was a racing mode, being the future and all, it could go along the lines of that game Wipeout on the ps, that had the hovers racers craft.
Maybe racing raptors, or space craft across tracks set in the unreal universe.

The only thing is that Epic would have to make the vehicles behave more realstically,
for a racing game to have any gameplay, for example, realtistic accelaration, momentum, turning and mass for the vehicles.

Personally they probably should focus on getting the other gameplay types to be fun,
and I would prefare they tried to make a better version of the AS mothership space combat , and vehicle CTF,
If Epic did a good version of a racing gametype it would stop inferior versions and misleading assault maps being made,

What is the link between TRON and Unreal?? I like both but I can t find it...
Anyway, I think that a racing mode (if it have to be) must have a relevant function (as a tutorial function as I mentionned earlier in this thread). It s actually very nice to wish lots of things but if UT becomes just like these knives from switzerland that can do a bit of everything just good enough but nothing excellent at all, what s the point? In addition I don t want UT to lose its soul.
That s why I keep on thinking that a tutorial is the most relevant way to introduce some racing mode.

Off course
No racing and no skill trials. There are MOD's for these things; I see absolutely no reason why Epic should waste production time for it...UT is still a first person shooter

I'm willing to make an exception for one single ONS tutorial map in which vehicles are explained in a map that can be used for racing as well, and another single DM tutorial that explains the moves.

Why is it that whenever someone wants anything, there are always ppl that want it as well? Is it really that hard to grasp that the more features Epic adds, the less time they have for things like balancing things, testing, improving, ...?

And it also usually delays when it's released.

Otherwise, no connection.
