Do you believe that using custom crosshairs in U2XMP is cheating, hacking, or wrong in any sense? Please post your opinions

I vote no. A crosshair is a crosshair. If I prefer a blue cross or a red dot or a swirling orange bowl of bunnies is just a personal preference and doesn't affect the game (except for not being able to see through the bunnies). Of course, if that crosshair were to somehow make your target glow or something similar, that would be cheating.

well, personally i can sometimes hardly see the blue crosshair on the blue nakoja mountians, so at least on this map another crosshair might be an advantage.

Crosshairs? of course not :p

Just about any FPS game out there these days lets you customize your crosshairs in one fashion or another, so how in the world can this be considered cheating?

In the basement
and how about the recticle of the assaultrifle that indicates distance. Or that reacts when you are aimed at someone (shotgun).

Although it doesnt matter that much, in the cases in which they are used, but when applied to a sniper (distance indicator, aiming through smoke) that would be exploiting.

Well, it wouldn't matter that much. But technically you have an advantage.

Of course you could also take the time that it takes to swap them, to train your skills, buy a good mouse, buy a good mousepad, tweak your xmp or jerk off. That will give you an advantage aswell. The latter only makes you feel better.

:)

Mmmkay, this is why I asked

http://www.back2games.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=836

the post that is being quoted is me on pet forums, in a response from kazi who stated that i was a cheater, and pet thinks about alpha all day.

The culmination of the thread was me being a hacker, for hacking ini files to make a pistol crosshair over the shotgun crosshair, it glows just the same as the normal crosshair, and blast radius is still the same...

Not once did i call you hacker. I actually defended you

:D

Did i mention Crosshairs wasn't the topic. Sheesh. Alpha runs a server, and i was curious what EDITS were being used. We also hashed out an alpha definition for whats respected on our server.

Frag you later.

The players still playing XMP have such grudges against one another. I didn't join a clan for a while, because it was worse then CS. I hoped that such a dwindling attendance would make it better. It didn't. There is still insults/not sure what too call it/forum sliders etc. etc. Maybe UTXMP will change the negative atmosphere made possible by all of us still playing.

About the cheating question

Because of the fact u2xmp doesnt have any support and no "printed" rules on what is right and wrong makes it hard to determine what should be allowed or not in some cases, apart from the obvious aimbot/radars/exploits/hacks/bugsexploits etc etc.

In my oppinion its really a matter of using common sence, if you modifie the game so that you have an advantage over other players then you are cheating imo. And that includes movement keybinds, vision changing etc.

I would like games to be about skill and not about 1337 keybinds, modificationd in the ini file or finding some lame commandline. If you cant conc jump, practise ffs. If you cant see far enough to aim at someone with the shotty, hey, its probably not meant to be used that way or praccy your aim.

If you wanna be good at something practise is the only answer.

Hopefully all this will end with the release of utxmp and we can finally see who had the real skill and who didnt.

Toky "Personally i would BAN anyone who changes their settings, which gives an unfair advantage. MODIFIED SIGHTS IS CHEATING in my book.

MACROS = cheating
MODIFIES SIGHTS= cheating

If everyone had the option of using these then it wouldn't be. "

doesn't sound much like any kind of defense for it at ALL.

Toky "I have no respect for anyone using EDITS, especially when they won't share them."

"Editing HUDS should be public information! If it's not, it's cheating in my book."

ALPHAS general stance is that, its cheating unless everyone can get the same tweaks/mods/etc.

Then kazi (after accusing me of hacking my view) says
"Chrosshairs/hud - no biggy (should be shared with the WHOLE community so we are all playing on the same level) Many games allow to choose from many types of crosshairs to fit your personal taste - not xmp and some crosshairs are very poor (sniper unzoomed - too much clutter and the blue pistol crosshair blends into the map) "

Pretty selfish? But i guess through contradictions we've come to the conclusion that I don't really cheat.

Oh and btw, here its open to the public

these crosshairs, have a slightly modified sniper crosshair (its the same with 4 extra lines (outside of the actual dot) to make it look cooler, it glows over names exactly the same as normal sniper crosshair, the nade crosshair is the same just different color, and a pistol graphic over the shotgun graphic)

EDIT : Unzip into your UISCRIPTS folder, it will replace your current Crosshairs.ui, so put it on the side by changing the originals name to something like Crosshairs.ui_1 or something like that, so it isn't deleted.

Have fun remaining 23 members of the xmp community, and good luck with your new crosshairs.
