If for some odd reason we wish to discuss the poilitics of these mutators lets do it here. Keep the technical stuff in yurch's thread and the other stuff out.

The story so far:

No. Cause TOAD tried doing that 1 week after 2.9 was released. No one wanted a divide in the community at that time and thats what it would have done. Now that we only have 50 players who cares!! !

Me:

The whole divided community was always, even in the 2.86 days, rather silly. It wasn't a mutator that divided the community but how people wanted to play.

If the mutator did not come aong it would still have been divided. RA players would still play their style, tactic, slower pace etc, while vanilla players would play less tactical, faster etc.

The mutators only provided a BETTER way to play how we wanted.

This mutator, nor toad's True scale, nor RAv2, RA or even RA286 never divided this community. The community is fundamentally divided, one part gamers, the other part realism enthusiast... the mod of the mod are only an awnser to the request of that second part.

Agreed... good idea to take it out of the technical thread. It's for the best.

Just for the recod, if it weren't for the people making new mutators and maps, I would have been long gone.

It's that simple, really. Nobody ever divided the community, but some really good bunch of people saved some other really good bunch of people from the evil horrors of leaving INF.

Well I dont know about you guys but I consider it a divide that I played INF for over a year and didnt know half the guys who played on MUF and the other vanilla servers until 2.9 was released. And again I think RAv3 will divide it again. I can see this allready when i mentioned to run and gunners like Cheese and Bollocks they didnt sound too enthusiastic. The problem is there is no MUF this time. IF they want vanilla they are gonna have to go to Euro servers or get the hell outta dodge. That or start there own server. Only time will tell. Either way ill miss those chaps but im in it for the realism experience. Even if it hurts the way I play well I would rather it hurt my game for the addition of more realism, and from the testing ive done RAv3 will add that additional realism.

Oh for the record I have my threads newest on top so those little I am with stupid signs with arrows all go the wrong way, or the right way depending on my mood.

I agree with you to a point NT. The thing is that although I like those other players I really don't enjoy the games we have together because it is not my style. So even with the mutators I generanlly avoid those servers and if I can't those games. I just find something else to do.

NT, I am forced to play on NA servers to play with people that play my way. It's not like it's a punishment or something. And you can adept perfectly to the situation. Only problem is that semi auto is less effective because the ping and sometimes you get pinged by m4 whores in cqb but that's it.
I can see that for run and gunnners the problem will be bigger, but frankly there are enough other mods out there to satisfy their needs.

There's a reason I'm trying to make it a weekly event only.
No splitting, no bullshit politics, more manageable chunks for me, and a concentrated playerbase so we can actually get a game going.

The politics are not something I'm interested in right now.

RA never divided the community, it saved the community. RA didn't split people off from the vannilla community, it gave many people (myself included) who were fed up with vannilla and ready to leave inf a reason to stay. Sans RA you wouldn't have seen some big vannilla community, you would have seen no community.

I agree with that, before 2.9, things seemed to be going slow and people were getting to leave because of being fed-up with the run and gun style of vanilla. RA brought a new variation to inf and made things more "tactical" which i always felt was lacking back in the days of 2.80 ~ 2.86. RA shed a new light and gave a different perspective to RA, perhaps challenging as well through the matter of style, and you had those that attempted the steeper learning curve and enjoyed it, and those that stayed with Vanilla, but without RA, no doubt, Inf would not have been the way it is right now imo. It brought a new type of enjoyment that has become an essential part of the community.

I see it as evolution rather than division.

True yurch but wtf snake and ninjin? ??? ? That comment Snake was totally contradictory unless you meant that the vanilla players were in fact no longer part of the community once RA was released.

No what he meant that many people who went to RA would have left the community because they did not like the game play. So instead of a small community of RA players and a small community of vanilla players all you would have left was one small community of vanilla players.

RA gave many players a reason to keep the game on their systems and to play. Chances are good that they would have left completly and not return for 2.9.

See, I meant more debate regarding it's current standing rather than reminiscing of the 'good 'ol days'.

And no, I'm not about to start a far-reaching team with the sole intention of modding other mods.

To some extent maybe it is, maybe it isn't. However I felt that a lot of the split talk was kind of sour grapes from people who felt you were taking thier game away. In fact it should be obvious that the people who were very pro RA weren't really interested in playing the same game as the vanilla folks. More than anything else you gave those of us who felt that INF really should be as real as it gets something to hold on too. I also think that what you did helped make 2.9 a better game.

I don't see how really anyone can object to the kind of modifications you are now doing. In RAv2 you made fundemental changes to the game when you introduced new speeds and stamina levels that were more realistic. I liked it because I came to INF looking for something more realistic than TO. INF gave me that and RAv2 improved on that. Your more recent improvment to the hit detection system is simply great. Aim is so much more important now with this mutator that is has changed the way I play nearly as much as RAv2 did. The thing is unlike the changes in RA it is all but impossible IMHO to argue against a realistic hit location system. Again a weapon that shoots where you point it, an improved shotgun, who is gonna complain about that?
