Yes because your Church of England monarchs were way better than those darn Christians! Anglicism forever!

We're so awesome here in America that we have:

  • Taken the name of a sport you hold dear and applied it to a much superior sport, even if it is a bastardization of the name.
  • Stuck to a weights and measurement system the world around us doesn't use, we don't ****ing care what the rest of you use.
  • Dominated World Pop Culture. We're cool and we ****ing know it.
  • Created the world's market place. If you want to be someone and sell something, you need to come to us. If we think your **** sucks, you'll never be "someone".

Muahaha. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll need to spend the rest of the night in the shower washing. I get the idea I won't be feeling clean after spouting off with this rant I characterize as being that of a "texas republican"...

I don't care if this is Ad hominem, but if you ask me Selerox is a nationalist asshole who needs to stfu and stop hating people who are different than him. (THE HORROR!)

Focus your creative energy on improving your own life, not on criticizing the lives of others.

I have a fairly dim view of the American political agenda...

Hehe, new guy.

Nationalist? Not in the slightest. I actually like America. Well, the concept at least. Not sure about how it turned out. I just think it's beyond ridiculous that America is slowly ripping itself in two along political lines. That isn't going to end well.

America could be paradise if you only got a grip and stopped splitting yourself along party lines. Parties that frankly aren't all that different from each other, despite what most Americans seem to think.

Pretty funny reading this thread and realizing that England did have a large part in making America and then Selerox actually said it before I could respond. Seriously though, I wish they would have kept the puritanism.;)

To be fair, Sel, I think that's over-simplifying it quite a bit. There are two dominant parties, yes, but opinions are all over the place. I daresay you English lot aren't exactly all marching in lockstep about your politics are you?

I think you're watching too many American TV shows. ;)

Polite reminder: the UK isn't just England.

I was trying to make a general point. I know opinions are in the full spectrum, as they are everywhere, but the whole Red State/Blue State thing does get a little out of hand, and it doesn't take a genius to see the Republican party's oh-so-subtle attempt to pull the rug out from under reform purely for party political gain. I know all parties do that, but some of the crap that Republicans have been coming out with is verging on hysterical. Obama's about as much of a Socialist as Pat Buchanan is a gay rights activist.

As for the political situation in the UK? In no way do we agree. As mentioned already, just take a look at the state of the Conservative Party HQ at the moment. When you have students beating policemen with fire extinguishers, you'll agree that we're not the most politically unified country...

I think you're watching too many American TV shows. ;)

What can I say? I need my Big Bang Theory fix ;)

Sorry - thought you were in England for some reason

but the whole Red State/Blue State thing does get a little out of hand

That's pretty much just a media graphic and not much more. People don't indentify themselves in that way.

It's all hysterical, but at the grass roots level there are truly fundamental philosophical differences. Yes, there's politics and grandstanding involved, but that doesn't always mean there's not an underlying point. Of course, since you've only made a general statement and not a specific one I can only respond in kind.

Obama's about as much of a Socialist as Pat Buchanan is a gay rights activist.

It doesn't really matter what label he's given - that's a red herring. We've got socialist policies here in the US already and he's in favor of adding more - as are a huge chunk of legislators on both sides of the aisle. Some because they truly believe that's the way to go and others because it grants them more power.
