help with taunts and staying alive

I have been playing both Unreal and UT since their releases and I play it almost every day, if only for bit.

I have only seen a few cheaters in Unreal, and they were obviously just fooling around, like a 0 pinger (i.e. server admin) flying around, or naliplayer, etc. Never seen a "real" cheater (ie. discretely cheating) in a real match.

In UT, if you play with "admin" enabled, your name becomes white, so it is obvious. I have never seen a "real" cheater in UT, and I play a lot!

If you say you are new to UT, it is likely you are just still adjusting (and getting blasted). UT has some VERY powerful one-shot kill weapons (like the shock-combo). I wouldn't be surprised if a new UT player gets kills 30-0 against a bunch of good players.

Even if only the map is new to me, I easily drop down to "newbie" status myself, no only because I don't know how to navigate, but also because I don't know where the powerups are. In UT, knowing the map, powerups and weapon-choice alone makes a HUGE difference in your success.

Even a "expert" play will feel like a newbie at times, if the map doesn't fit their style. Eg. Shocker prefer open maps, while Flakers like tight maps, and unless you are good with both weapons, scores can swing wildly.

If you think you have seen a cheater, describe him. Maybe we can explain it, or maybe he IS a cheater, haha.

Hmmm Cheaters that was a whole topic b4 search the forum..

I think i was involved in a game where a guy was cheating, picture the sceene.......

I am chasing the flag carrier down the twisty passage in Niven I have hit him with the flak cannon AT LEAST 6 times and suddenly he stops takes off vertically into the air and flies down the passage.....hmmmm methinks there is a slim chance that he was cheating dont u?

Stayin alive the best advice i can offer you at this stage would be NEVER stand still especialy in combat and fire when u have a target not at random (i still blast away most times but im learning) play the single player game on auto adjust for the bots the learning curve is really very good also the best way to look at the game is as a fun exp' I no longer care about my stats as long as i enjoy the game.Yeah and learn the maps like Xx says it gives a great advantage as well..

Well what about lag? Could he be lagging in game so badly it looks as if others are cheating? While I know the cheats for single player, hehe and I can't tell you what to do unless I go an insentive /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif... hehe. But I thought it was nearly IMPOSSIBLE to cheat in a multiplayer game isn't it?

Hint for cheats on single player: Think... movies nerds like... cool lines in movies nerds like.

No the Server Admin can enable cheating in the ini file /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

Whenever I come accross someone I suspect is cheating I just give them the benifit of the doubt 'cause lag can do some strange things in a game.
As for gaming tips, well its like Haplo and Bones say, knowing the map and movin around all of the time are essential to being a good player.
You really need to learn to dogde around violently and keep your crosshairs trained on a target at the same time.
As for lag....well its the most powerful weapon in the game. You'll learn to use it to your advantage given time.

Hehe, usually I dodge so wildly I find myself falling off whatever building or platform I was previously on. I couldn't even begin to count the times I've attempted to dodge rockets on the Face map and ended up going splat (with the damned flag too!) And yeah I sometimes wonder if people are cheating or if I'm lagged because this happens to me a LOT:

You have the person in your sights, fire off some rockets or whatever, hit them point blank and SEE 2 or 3 rockets go off on them, and they get away unscathed. To add insult to injury, sometimes I'm the one who gets killed instead.

I was playin this mean deathmatch last night, I came around a corner, and blasted this dude with all six rockets. He looked at me, shrugged, handed me a doggie-doo-ice-cream cone, turned into a cannabalistic pygmy in a puff of pink smoke, and scooted away.

I think he was cheating...
