Origonally I got my PC for University work and games as a side line but after the discovery of UT it almost took over.

So Iv just been figuring out exactly what Iv spent JUST for UT and its scary...

2 new Graphics cards so the game looks better (Voodoo 3 then GF2)

21" Moniter for vision

another 128 mb memory just in case

1.2 gig athlon for smoother fps

SB live! 5.1 sound card for better sound fx

5.1 surround speakers for the EAX patches

Conversion from modem to ISDN line

It unbelivable but If I hadnt discovered UT then I bvery probably would still have my bog standard system as I needed nothing better to work with.

It comes to around £990(and £40 a month for ISDN) if your wondering and thats not counting other smaller extras that need to be done with general upgrades. :eek2:

In spite of having spent all that money, you didn't actually buy UT itself? :p

I did. Six times at last count. Two mac (gave one away), Two PC (lost em both), two GOTY (gave one away, still have the other). And just to add insult to injury, the new vidcard that came in the mail last week came with a bonus game. You guessed it. Another copy of UT.

Sigh.

All my computer upgrades belong to UT over the last (almost) two years. Plus a cable subscription. A P2-400 would be good enough for the other games I'm into, mainly turn based strat's and sometimes Diablo2.

DTT2500 speakers, 5.1 surround
SBLive Platinum
GF-2Ultra
P3-800EB
256 megs ram
17" flatscreen monitor
asus cusl2 m0b0
etc etc blah blah blah

My system should hold fine now until just before U2 comes out, then I'll get into a major upgrade.

Nothing :D

I got UT as a Christmas present. I would have gotten it sooner, but I didn't have DSL, and UT on 56k was just stupid. Sadly, I haven't upgraded at all, I'm just saving money to buy a whole new system for myself :D

I paid $75.xx + shipping. The total for UT and the hat I ordered with it after shipping was $120. (hat was only $7)

sooo many upgrades

-Voodoo 2 (3d) + Some ATi Rage card (2d) - switched that for a v3-3000 ($240)

-added 64 MB more memory ($100) to 128

-then, swapped my celeron 266 for a celeron 400 ($100)

-cdBurner so I could start to save all these maps/mods/skins etc. No more room on my 4.3 Gb h/d. ($350)
-Western Digital 17GB h/d ($275)

About 1 yr after UT was out, decided I needed more power cause my celerons sucked:

Athlon 650 (slot A) ($360)
New Mobo ($ 260)
Another 128MB memory ($125)<-Memory getting much cheaper now
New Case/PSU ($120)
New sound card ($75)
New IBM 75GXP 46Gb h/d ($330)
Creative Labs FPS 1000 speakers ($120)

-then my voodoo card started to suck a$$, so a new video card came after...RadeonLE ($165)

-more memory (sold the old stuff in my old 2 pcs) and bought the nice Cas2 Micron stuff....512MB! ($250?)

-the FPS1000's were ok, but not what I wanted...switch to Klipsch ProMedia's ($400)

Most recently (2 wks ago :))

AMD-Tbird 1.2 Ghz - $200
New mobo - $220
New Case - $65
OCZ Gladiator HSF - $50
PC2100 DDR 512MB - $170
new CD-Rom - $60
new Floppy - $20

Other pieces including NIC's, Power cables, case fans etc. I keep taking the best parts from my old pc (or needed parts anyway ) to fill in the gaps until more stuff that I want comes out.

Not sure of the total, but I'm sure I've spent over $2000 in order to keep me and my UT playing times the best they can be. I'm now almost ready for U2. Well after I get my Radeon8500 ($this is gonna be big!!!!) and Philips Acoustic Edge sound card ($100).

I keep telling myself, NO MORE UPGRADES, but it's too hard to resist! lol

heh

Mine is similar, but it was mainly for Q3. This was over a LONG time:

P2-400
Voodoo2 SLI (That's right, when it first came out..2x Voodoo2 = $1000 CDN.) One of the few people that had SLI.
128 megs RAM.
17" Mag Monitor

I sold that system and later picked up a GeForce 1 SDR and a p3-650. Recently upgraded again, so I now have:

P3-650 (still same one, but running @ 806 now).
GeForce 2 GTS
768 Megs RAM
Win2k Pro
19" Viewsonic

Let me see, its mainly due to UT that I got the new soundcard, new speakers, and new vid card, as well as the new memory.

As for UT itself, I got a warez before it was released, then I got a legit version shortly afterwards, and later on I got the GOTYE cos the first UT disc got scratched.

Oh yeah, and cos of UT I got the ms explorer, and a new modem.

I played it for over a year on 56K, a lot of people on puf still have 56K. It's really not as bad as you would think, as long as you can get use to having to estimate where your opponents really are.

I pretty much use my home system for UT exclusively. For anything else I could use my Cel@450.

Probably around $1500..
MB: Abit KT7A
Processor: Thunderbird 1ghz
Memory: 256mb PC133
Video: Voodoo5-5500 64mb
HDD: Maxtor 30gb 7200rpm ATA100
Sound: SB Live Value, (I will be upgrading soon to Platinum)
Speakers: Klipsh ProMedia 4.1
Modem: USR Sportster ISA Internal
Mouse: Logitech Optical Wheel
Monitor: CTX 19"

Except for the modem, every item was purchased for the purpose of playing UT. Once cable internet, becomes available I will get it) It will be mainly used to play UT online.

I really haven't spent that much on upgrading my computer since I bought the current one in 98. It still runs UT quite well.

P2 400
128MB RAM

For UT specifically I purchased:

New videocard: 129.95 (my old dual-V2's finally died)
more RAM: 100.00

The real question is 'how much would I LIKE to spend?'.
