just thought i`d say hello to you guys...especially anyone in Europe (even maybe England..lol) long time player of GR and F`point, and i played a "little" 2.86 Inf. I`ve just found the 2.9 version a coupla days ago right at the same time I was getting back into GR after a long spell off, and for the last coupla days GR hasn`t got a look in, I really like the realism touches with this mod, the absence of crosshairs is excellent, the collision of weapon with surroundings is nice, very little of the map is a no-go area, you can fall off places (unlike GR!!) you can drop your weapon when jumping a distance and that I`ve never seen in any game ;) learning curve is ok...BUT my main prob. has been identifying team mates!!! being new to game is bad enough but getting TKs `cos you can`t suss the camo out at 100+ mtrs is very embarrasing, I`m certainly no spring chicken (or even a summer one ..lmao) but my eyesight ain`t that bad...lol..I`m used to having comms in clan games (GR etc) so its not been a prob up to now, but as I`m a lone gunner atm that doesn`t apply, plus the amount of times I`ve hesitated to shoot just to try and check the camo and been killed in those few seconds is a real pain, I`ve read about Report Direction and have just got UTcompass, could anyone tell me about RD as I`ve no idea yet how it is used in the game, only other problem that has kinda spoiled the realistic feel is the amount of `nades flying about...but I think with a couple of teams in a server who both play real team tactics this game is hard to beat...anyway if you see someone in game squinting in your direction for a couple of seconds it`ll probably be me :D

Welcome :).

As for camos, different servers have different camo settings for each map. You do get an eye for it over time, but the fact that some servers have almost identical camos on some maps don't help. Just hop onto another one if it becomes too much of a problem :).

As for nade spamming, yes it can be a problem sometimes. The only real way of getting around it it by doing just that - try and find a way around to flank them.

Info on ReportDirection can be found here: http://home.tiscali.no/kayove/ut/rd.html
It's well worth getting to know how to use, as it's very handy to help teamwork, and more and more servers are running it now. There's a thread somewhere here about having a key to switch between standard keybinds and ReportDirection keybinds... (SDS)benmcl might know where it is...

Welcome. Camos can be a tad hard in the begining and even later on...
Once you get to know the flow of the maps and you can start to predict where the enemy might be at it becomes a bit easier. Still communication is essential as well as working as a team so you know where your team mates are at any given time. Hard to achieve on a public server I know :) I have noticed that if the defending team doesn't rush to meet the enemy but stays back and actually defends the game gets a lot more "enjoyable" for someone like me (old, poor reflexes, below average computer, high ping...).
Frequent usage of "Acknowledge" is also something people use as the location id is displayed with the message. Sometimes it does actually prevent tks. And, if you have the luxury to be in a position where you can stop and type without danger, ask. eg. "Anyone on the roof?". If no answer, blast 'em :)

Hi ho and Welcome

Sorry I'm late. Slept in.

The thread is here: http://forums.beyondunreal.com/showthread.php?t=127051 BUT it is a tad messy. I do plan to tidy it up and post something that doesn't make people brains bleed. Hopefully sometime tonight.

Having not been on the servers for nearly a month, due to RL and online issues I am not up to date of the current players. I do know is that communication is key and knowing where your mates are is important. That will take time though to learn and your mates must also communicate. It will come.

Just remember to have fun and everything else will fall into place.

Hope to see you soon online.

Edit: Spelling is something that happens to other people.
Edit: Ok maybe posting before 10 am from work is not such a good idea.

Welcome to Inf 2.9. Its a totally different game than 2.86 and the improvements were good.

On the TK issues, it can be a problem. Both my server (SG Servers DTAS Server) and the GD server run UTCompass which is a large compass in the top center of your screen that has persistent indicators on it showing team member locations relative to you. I find that helps quite a bit. Not sure if the Euro servers are running that but, if they aren't you can ask them to. A lot fo the admins will do whatever they can to increase the enjoyment on their server.

Hope to see you online.

hey thanks for the welcome :) I`m guessing that this location problem is only a prob in the public servers when playing with a mix of people/clans? in matches, and team/clan skirmishes you use voice comms yeah? they were invaluable to our squad during matches with GR etc., and I think TS/RW/etc. does a good job of simulating contact on a modern battlefield situation...as I`ve no military experience whatsoever these are laymans comments!!! but just having your squad or team mate on a voice channel completely alters the immersion factor IMHO....even if its just to hear the chaos going on :) the only problem I can ever remember coming up (again in GR....) was that people who were dead still having access to the maps and were still able to see through their corpses eyes, and so were acting as a "lookout" for team mates and using the voice comms to pass info to the members of the team who were still alive......still not sure if any solution was found lol,
had a look at RD and speechpack and i think i`ll be PMing the authors pretty soon....software ain`t my thing unfortunatly, so i might require an a little extra assistance in setting them up

I know the clan I am in is planning to use Voice Comm. We solve the lookout situation my disabled Free Ghosting so they can view from living teammates but they cannot roam and spy.
