So I'm pretty goddamn upset right now. My camera sucks.

I was trying to get a bunch of low-light shots today and the camera would say "busy" for 4-6 seconds before it would let me shoot. What the **** is up with that. I missed ALOT of really decent to great shots because of this. Hell, some moments completely passed by me because of this.

Yes, I was shooting in auto-mode, which was probably my problem, but motion + low light = no go with manual settings. Atleast I don't know what I'm doing.
Well it's not the cameras fault if you don't know what you're doing.

Just bump up your iso and use either Aperture or Shutter priority mode depending on your needs.

BTW, What's the lens you're using? That can have the biggest impact on low light shooting.

So I shot a sequence of 142 pictures that I would like to make a video out of, but iMovie only lets you show a single photo no shorter than 1/2 second. Is there anything out there that is free for Mac that will let you combine photos to make a video.

I am not trying to make a slide show. I want each frame I shot to make up a single frame of video. I checked Google, but not much luck.

On the mac side I only know of final cut or adobe premiere to be of help to you. (import frames) You have to specify in the frame preferences how long you want each still frame to last. Problem is with 142 frames.. it could be over as fast as 5 Seconds (29.97fps NTSC), 6 Seconds (24fps / Film), or 12 seconds (12fps / Animation). That isnt much video. With some frame blending you can create the appearance of smooth motion.

If your using a PC, you should look into Virtual Dub. Its a very small program, its blazing fast to render, and its free. Its a little more technical but it will do exactly what you want.

The reason for the slow writing/processing is most likely due to the noise reduction settings. I always turn this off. I don't remember what your camera you have but hopefully your camera will have some sort of option/custom settings to turn it off.

Your camera is examining your file in great detail and is individually eliminating hot pixels (via pixel mapping) and applying noise reduction (usually smoothing out noise) which unfortunately makes it blurry and you in trade loose detail. If your shooting in raw none of this matters and there is no reason to have Noise Reduction turned on. NR is only necessary when you are capturing to .jpgs.

Maybe Boinx iStep Motion will do it for you. ($50 with free demo)

Jackal - like 007Mike said it sounds like the auto noise processing. I turned it on in my camera (should be under the custom settings on your 40D)and it was stopping my camera be able to take burst ire shots due to the large gaps between shots.

BillyBadAss - try out VirtuaDub. I use it to take a sequence of rendered images from 3dsmax or similar (rather than rendering direct to video) and turn it into an Avi file. Hopefully should do what you want it to :)

OO7Mike! I need your help. Read above about my video idea problem. I need a way to put all those photos together in a video on the cheap! (read free)

Try VirtualDub to make a basic AVI. It can import BMPs and other formats. You can then explore other tools to add effects.
