there was a documentary on gabbers and skinheads a week ago. there was this bald dude wearing a 'White Power' insignia on his bomberjack. when asked if he's a racist, you get this dialogue:

"Are you a racist?"
"Not at all."
"But you have a 'White Power' insignia on your jacket?!"
"Yes, why?"
"Aren't people with that insignia racists?"
"Oh, I just took it because it looks cool with my shirt."

And that totally sounds like a biased, yellow documentary to me.

I used to hang out with skins all the time. The majority of them are NOT boneheads (racist skins) And they hate the stereotype. In fact, most of them will kick your ass if you call them racist.

Never listen to TV when they're talking about any subculture. They bias and color it. They make all skins violent racists, they make all goths satan worshipping suicides, they make all punks self destructive Sid Vicious ripoffs. They take the worst of it, and only hilight that, because that's what gets ratings. Fsck TV.

The ones I'm talking about usually just refer to themselves as "skins"

Skins refer to racist skins as "boneheads"

Don't EVER assume a skinhead is a bonehead. They'll kick the crap out of you. Immediately. Without hesitation.

Skins are very into punk rock. (Dropkick Murphys punk, not this Blink 182 ****. Call Blink punk, and they'll kick the crap out of you.) You'll often see them with "real" punks. (the ones with mohawks, leather jackets, and spikes everywhere.) Most skins are also very patriotic, both to the US and to their usually Irish descent. (Something about it seems to cause many, many skins to be Irish)

Skins like to drink and fight. It's just what they do. The violence doesn't help the stereotype, but it's part of their subculture.

And BBA, I've never seen a correlation with the Docs.

First off not all racists are white, I've known quite a few blacks that I would consider racists.

When I was growing up at one point live in Oklahoma. I had a few friends there. I moved around alot and eventually(about 12 years later) I ended up in Florida where I am now. About 2 years ago my girlfriend's friend introduced us to one of her friends. He happened to be a skinhead. He used to hang with alot of "boneheads" as chryst said, but he was trying to change. Anyway we all went to see that movie American History X(not a bad movie btw).

Well later that night I'm talkin to this guy and he asks where i'm from. When I telll him that I'm a military brat and have lived all over he says "me too!". Turns out he was good friends with one of my close friends when I lived in Oklahoma. Kinda weird.

Well we got along fine so I guess my point to that little story was that NO, not all skinheads are racist(I'm black).

I vaguely remember something about colored shoe laces in Docs, back in the mid 80's. Like white = white supremist (bonehead), blue = skins, or something like that.

and yea of course it depends on what part of the world youre in/what culture youre talking about...

here, skins i know are the rowdy side of the hardcore punk subculture/movement... and also tend ta be more political and literary than the punks who are more music oriented...
alotta skins that do come from europe and your neck of the woods do seem to expect the facist/nazi angle here and are disappointed when it (mostly) doesnt appear here...
except maybe for shock value in a show or dress...

there are 'boneheads' in every society/culture, hair or not

I think, in Europe, Redskins fit the description you make of your US skins. They are more anarchists and loooove to fight our "normal" skins. They listen both to "violent" underground music but with totally differents lyrics and themes. You'll find a lot of punk music with RS but not with the normals who prefer "military march" like trash rock.

But these redskins are disapearing here in Belgium. I still heard of them in the 80's when I was at school but don't heard anymore of them these last years.

Sounds like the Rude Boys we used to have. Been YEARS since I've seen one.
