Tip...Don't ever whine about it as an excuse for loosing in a game. Other than that I don't know, You're probably a better player than I.

First off, free ISPs are awful in my experience. If you don't want to spend alot then do some searching. I use a www.millenicom.com but I know there are some less expensive providers. They charge $17/month.
Next, I've played on 56k for along time, I know it sucks playing LPBs. The fact is the game runs slower, you can't fire or switch weapons as fast. I know this because I've taken my system to a friends house to play on cable. All I can say is that it takes alot of practice to learn to play well with the high ping. I do very well vs members of my clan. On our server our one guy pings 25 to it. It's a pain in the @ss when he pulls out that damn plasma gun and runs circles around you. My remedy for this is to keep my distance and wear him down. You just have to get used to how UT is on 56k, understand your disadvantage in situations and adjust to compensate. Know how far to lead the person and splash damage is your best friend
On a side note, last time I played on cable it was for a match vs ACOM on OGL. I had a total of 2hours to warm up and I played worse than I would've on my 56k. Hard to break the habit of leading your opponent, which you've done since the game was released,in 2 hours prior to match time

JJaXx, you may learn from KingLao, he plays great with a high ping.

But King's ping is below 300. mainly 150-250.

A 300 ping limits you a lot. RA has not much sense with all the LPBs there
Learn to lead your targets escpecially with hitscan weapons, and try to find servers with other HPBs

300 used to be my cutoff for playing decent. I could get a few frags, keep up with other people at that lag or less. Now, I can do it up to over 400 (but not much); I don't really play my best until I start to drop below 150 though. When that happens me and the rocket launcher become best friends

all i play is excessive....w/ a 400-500 constant ping and 13fps lol....but i'm decent i guess, i can hold my own and own a lot of people while playing it

as for 1v1.........pffffffffff i got wasted by kinglao, i suck at 1v1 it was my first one

I have a 56k modem and get around lower 200's

I am a 56k player. My best connection I get is 48k. I have found a server that I can get down to a 200 ping!! even lower, late at nite/early in the morning but usally its in the 250's to 300's. Just look around untill you find a server that you ping well at. Heck before I switched ISP's I had a 850 to 1000 ping at almost every server I tried. You talk about tough. I was usually dead before I saw who got me
Practice practice is the name of the game. I am fairly good against players with pings 1/2 as low as mine. But if too many LPB's go up against me I am done for. Learn to lead your targets. It sounds silly But it will pay off. I can waste guys 1/2 across face with the enforcer. For me it takes about 1 to 1-1/2 of a body width lead to get some one running at a 90 degree angle from me. Plus remember splash damage on the Ripper, Shock, & the 8-ball, means that you dont have to hit dead on.

I also have 56k and dont let them LPB discourage you. You can do alot with a 56k modem if you try hard enough.

I love 56k... Been playing you UT since it came out. And even tho cable is much smoother, and is always better then Modem. I feel there are however some adventages to playing with modem. I have dance a-many of times with 50 ping plyrs... Which is to say the sync is off just a hair. But I have had Good games playing UT with 300 ping... And sorry ones to... Here is a tip to get really good. Play pratice mode alot... it will help improve your skills. Im up to Inhumain...Bot level.. With various bots truned up... Once I can beat Godlike constantly.... Im coming for everyone ahahhah But here is a tip I do.... shot not just ahead of plyrs but way ahead. Member with 50 ping and 300 ping your off just alittle... Play around you will figure it out.... MY CABLE GANNA BE HERE THIS WEEKEND YEEEAAAAAAA.......... finally

A good tip to remember is stay back, let them come to you, so your on equal ground... know where they are, and what they might do... fire off a couple rockets so they think your running one way, then go the opposite, and wait... get behind them, and mow their backsides with the minigun...

but if ya want a good server, 56k only... absolutely NO lpb's only 170 ping+ players if I'm correct...
Then try Unreal://66.92.75.32:7787 I'm here when playing DM because I'm on cable type 56k that is never stable if you know what I'm talking about then good... but it's VERY slow most of the day, 2.5k a second transfers... and during the nightime... it's upwards of 5.5-6.5k a second... but only on a blue moon does it get to 6.5k

The best thing is to practice aim, aim is your friend, and your enemy... try running, firing off the secondary shock, then strafing, and trying to hit it... that's how I learned to aim... and it helps... ALOT... I've become a 56k miniho from my good old shockho days...

Talk to me in IRC tonight. I've say I pretty much have gotten as good as I can get on a 56k. Theres a lot of stuff you might not even know effects you. I've been playing UT for like 2 years now, so I should be able to help ya with a couple of things.
