420 patch craps out on my box

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Something about my system makes the 420 patch installer crap out every time it runs.

UT420error.jpg

System: AMD K6-2/333
RAM: 128 Meg
Video card: Voodoo 3/2000
UT Version 413
OS: Windows 98 SE
Hard Drive: 8 gig, 5 gig free

I tried uninstalling UT and re-installing from CD, then applying the 420 patch. Same error. Also tried re-downloading the 420 patch from another site. No change.

The above error pops up at the point where normally a screen would come up showing which packages are going to be installed. This occurs before any game files are accessed. In fact, out of spite I tried deleting my UnrealTournament directory and running the 420 patch installer, got the exact same error.

The 413 patch installer runs fine of course.

Lol!!! The ultimate solution. :)
Sad part is, it seems like a complete re-install is just something one should expect to have to do every once in a while.
Footnote: /d tells windows setup to ignore current windows configuration, and /p f (note the space) tells Windows to rebuild the registry. Sometimes running Setup /d /p f will do the trick without having to completely start over. Also useful: /iv tells Windows not to display those annoying advertisements during the file copy.
