I have a cable modem and my ping rate has been good. However, in the last few days it has really SUCKED. Doesn't matter what server I select. I have checked with my provider and ops check ok. Is it possible somebody hacked/jacked with my computer while I was playing UT?

Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.
Its possible but unlikely. More likely more people in your area signed up for the service and you backbone is saturated. Try it late at night and if its better then thats what has happened. Its also possible that your provider is full of it. They may have poorly configured routing tables in one of thier servers or something.
Most likely its something to do with your computer configuration. its very hard to track these things down without being there and actually looking through the computer.

dont feel bad. once about 2/3 of all ut servers were unreachable... and us consumers cant do much about it 
how bad was your ping? yesterday and a few times in the past all my pings were 200+ the usual. went away in the morning though.. A NIGHT WITHOUT UT. not even i deserve to be THAT unfortunate!!!!
if a local node went down somewhere i guess it might cause congestion on others.. If your ping isnt VERY ugly, maybe you need to make sure your netspeed is tweaked properly. hit F6 and look at your BYTES/SEC and set your netspeed to around 2000 above that.
