Can I get die-hard hints/tips/techniques from shock ho's?

I mean, the guaranteed, blow-them-up combo tips....I know the basic routine, and have read previous posts related to this, but I have a problem actually making a guaranteed frag...which others seem to do easily.

Defensive, standing-still combos aren't too hard. How about running combos? How to time them? How much to lead your opponent? Bound keys for this? Other tips, tricks, practice suggestions?

Thanks :)

Play some instagib!!! Even if it's only with bots, set them to jumpy behavior and have fun..

Hmm, other than that, some people launch a slew of Alt fires in a horizontal line, then they try to single one out and BAM!..

Most shock whores can't hit combos WHILE running(strafing)... some can, but they are few and far between.. most people usually run and strafe. stop. shoot alt fire, smack with primary then keep running.. take about 1.5-2 seconds.. We have an "official" shock whore on our OGL team that is awesome with it..

Another way to practice is to play Shock arena for a few days straight.. that will help dramtically!!

Don't know if that helped at all, but I hope so :)

I haven't tried this but I remember somebody saying that they bound a key to center view. to lock their sight straight ahead. If you want to run straight, yer insured a combo. Tho, there's not many levels that it would be wise to use this. it might be something.....

ok...I'm no pro at this, not by a long shot, , but am definitely a "ho in training" ;)

Meaning : once I get my efficiency up, I'll be a PROUD member of Da Shock Ho's Of America

The one thing that really helped me, was the hardest thing to get used to, but once you do it then you realise how easy it is.

Forget about aiming at the guy. This isn't a sniper rifle. This is a bigass blue bubble of death that's going to dissolve anyone in it's radius. It's the shockwave that kills 'em.

THAT's the thing that will get your frag rate up. Aim to the right or left of the opponent and time the explosion so that they are directly even with the Big Blue Bubble of Death when it goes off.

Also...when you have a shock rifle in your hands, long hallways are your friend!!

Firefights are your friend!

One well timed explosion in the middle of a firefight , shot from 20 feet away, gets you an instant multikill.

The thing I LOVE about the shock rifle is how precisely deadly it is AT LONG DISTANCES.

Beware however: timing is everything. Do not do the Famous Troll move of setting off an explosion at the precise moment you move forward, hence killing yourself in a most messy way.

;)

If you see someone trying to combo you, start shooting your primary fire at them. If you're lucky, you'll hit one of their balls (meaning secondary or alt/fire) and blow them up good.

Just aim your primary shock at their rifle and let 'em rip.

Tried the center view thing the last time this came around, with little success. I'll try it again.

Maybe I'm just using it in the wrong scenarios (some maps are better for combos than others, I assume), or not getting opponents close enough to the center. I see red, but I've heard alot about "multikills," and I'm just not having that "instagib" success...

If anybody ever puts together a demo, or knows of one, I'd love to see it.

instagib helps your aim, but since that is a one hit kill, I don't see how that will help teach a shock combo... maybe as sniper training, but....

Try playing the shock rifle only arena maps/mutie.

Having a steady hand helps alot (as does a stationary target...que sera)... I can't strafe and combo, but running is simply a matter of knowing where you are aiming: your target, like Troll said, is your alt fire Bubble. And moreover, the alt fire bubble doesn't have to hit your opponent (actually, it can't =p). The best tactic that I don't use =P is to lay several bubbles in a line... watch which way your opponent tries to dodge, and hit the ball closest. Keep in mind there is a minimum range for doing shock combos... within that range, you just can't pull it off.

While running, just remember that you need to hit the ball... not even necessarily square on. And you don't have to hit it from behind... side works just as well (so dodge when people are shooting at you! =)

The few kills I get from combo's are very nice, and once you practice some, you'll stop saying "you've got to be kidding me, how do you use that in real combat?" =) [i certainly did]

Though I far from an expert, I have this little bit of advise...

Find yourself an empty server that has bots enabled. (The higher quality the bots, the better) And use nothing but the shock rifle.

Practicing on a server prepars you for the lag of real-life multiplayer.

I never amim the ball at a person either to right, left or on top. send it a little head of them. I tend to shock combo too early, so now I either look at the shadow of the ball, or wait until I think is "too far" and hit then. That is a great weapon for medium range

your combo whoreness varies between how much you know the maps... the best way would be to fire the secondary before the other guy sees it... you're just gonna have to know whether he is or not.. it's also good for protecting corners...

If you use the circlar ones (in 1076*? res), it should be easier to track the balls by keeping them in the sight whilst strafing, for example.

Also, train by dodging in between the firing.

Try moving up against a wall to your right or left, then fire the secondary ball. You can then use the strafe buttons to dance a little while the ball flies, just return to the wall to line up the combo.

If you are going to stand still while doing the combo, duck. Many snipers see stationary combo-wh0res as headshot bait.

another fun thing to do (although very ammo unfriendly) is to spray a bunch of secondaries and try to pick one of them out of the croud :)

One thing I noticed is that the shockball moves a lot slower than I expected. I had the same problem as Mullah, I was popping the thing off way early. I actually went into practice against a novice bot for about 2 or 3 minutes just to see what the heck I was doing wrong. I'm getting good with the combo, but not great. What makes a player a great combo ho is what Cobra said. You know the maps well enough that you can anticipate your opponent, and combo where he is going to be, before you see him. The best players kill me before I even see them.

Someone mentioned they don't shoot directly at the person. I do the same, always launch the ball to the right or the left, from medium or long distance. You can almost hear the peron say out loud "Oh, that stupid guy missed me by a mile", as they stand there and watch the big blue ball go by them...

KABOOM!!!!!!

Hehehehe

(They usually only make that mistake once<g> )

Also, like someone else said, try to anticipate where they are running, launch the ball well ahead of them and kerblam it as they run into it, but not too close to them so you catch them off gaurd. The thing has a surprisingly large blast radius. Tactic works very well against strafers...

Be sure to have "dynamic lights" enabled, so you can see the blue light on the walls/floor/roof. That makes it easier to determine how far the ball has travelled!

Also, if you shoot the ball horizontally, you can run after/away from the ball without aiming problems, so you won't be an easy target!

That's how I frag!

Salmoneus... That is a very good strategy.. I have tried that many times.. like on Face.. playing defense with back against the back wall.. I tried keeping both sides covered with shoch combos, but I can hit the first one, but when I swing over to smack the second one, I ALWAYS miss (so my aim sucks...sue me :))

I would love to be able to pull that off wit regularity!

You guys have alread mentioned alot of strategies, so I won't repeat them. Personally I just shoot the ball. There's really nothing more you can do to make it easier. It takes AIM(and yes you do have to hit the ball directly in the center).

If you want to practice combo shots the BEST way to become a "shock ho" is to load up morpheus, or some other low grav map of your choice. Practice shooting combos in mid air. Make sure you don't just shoot straight on either. Try shooting up and down. This might sound crazy, but if you can start hitting these you'll see that your aim will improve greatly(also with other weapons).

The next thing to practice is distance. For this I'd just get on an open field(such as lava giant). crouch down and fire a combo shot straight ahead. It should leave a blast mark on the ground. Now try to do a second combo shot and hit the same blast mark as before.

These are the ways that I learned how to do combo's. Now I can do moving combos fairly easily(occasionally jumping). And I can do standing combos without thinking at all. And as far as distance goes it's as easy as aiming a rocket launcher. Just remeber you need to lead your target.

One trick I did learn that no one else mentioned was this. If someone is close up to you(too close to do a combo), use the alt-fire and "bump" them back. If you shoot them two or three times simutaneously with alt-fire and they do not die, then (now that they are bumped back) the next alt-fire you launch immmediatly fire a primary fire after it and the combo will finish them off. This works better than you'd think in close quarters. ;)

You like that?
