Forgot what post I was answering.....

OH YEAH SOF! I didn't know it was out yet, thanks for letting me know, I'll be sure to pick it up when I finish all my exams! Played the demo and got a kick out of the different body parts you could damage. Hope the story is good, seems like it could be on the cheesy side.

Multiplayer will never beat the immersion of a story based single player game....

A lot of people told me it was a great game so I downloaded the demo and gave it try. And I really can't understand why everyone liked it so much. Sure you can hit your enemies in a million ways and that looks kinda cool. But the textures suck and the detail isn't very good either. It looks like a game from the beginning of fps gaming but with 3d-acceleration.

Sorry if this offends anyone but I've yet to hear anyone say this game looks good. And if I pay money for a new game I want it to look new.

I got it. I think it's pretty good... kinda reminds me of Half-Life. Multiplayer isn't too good though. Either UT is just too big a measuring stick, or I've become spoiled by UT.

All the people who like it:

be honest it is about blowing off limbs

All the people who don't like it (like me):

Don't care about blowing off limbs AND/OR have seen it before (Die by the Sword for me).

SoF is nothing special besides the 'realistic' damage model.

I got SoF last week and it took me 2 days to finish on effortless skillmode. I've tried the multiplayer too and I have to say don't bother with this game. Once you finish it you have nothing but a nice shiny coaster. The multiplayer is absolutely terrible but the singleplayer is fun.....once! It can't F wit UT by any means!!!

Alcoholic, your review has got to be one of the lamest things I've ever read, that an FPS sucks because you played it all through on effortless mode! I can't think of any activity that is any fun (including sex /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif) that would be any fun in "effortless mode."

If you like combat type situations, SOF is good. It has great weapon models and great sounds to go with them. Learning to lean around corners is a nifty new trick that I haven't seen before.

As for the gore, I played it for a while with full gore, found it to be unneccesary (and embarassing if someone "still sensitized" was watching), so I turned a lot of it off.

I'm not saying the gore is a bad thing unless you happen to love it. If you do, maybe you are cut out to work in a slaughterhouse or a meat packing plant /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif!

In one sense, the gore helps to remove the glorious image that people get from watching the typical Swartzennager "sphagetti combat". Gunshots are messy things. Is it better to know about this or be ignorant of it? I dare say that many firearm incidents might not have happened if the shooter knew how much of a mess a gunshot wound made. Current efforts to prevent people from witnessing the effects of violent acts may actually lead to more violent acts being committed by those who are still ignorant of how repulsive a mutilated body could be.

I have wondered if it is better to go through life somewhat "desensitized to gore" or not? I'm not trying to endorse the enjoyment of wallowing in blood and guts, or severed limbs and heads! I would just rather be a little bit mentally prepared for some gore in case I should happen upon a bloody car accident sometime. I would be more useful to help if I were able to keep my intestinal peristalsis going towards my a$$ instead of my mouth!

Ya know Hu....I could play through it on each and every skill mode but it still wouldn't change my opinion. And I take it you agree with me on the multiplayer since you didn't even mention it. As far as gore goes...I played Mortal Kombat and got over the gore fascination a long long time ago. The game is just too short and once you finish it there's nothing else to do with it but play frisbee with the CD!
