memory - is going from 64 to 128 worth it?

I have a k6-2 500, 64mb ram, voodoo 3000.
I usually play at 800X600, often with bots and on ctf maps. If i buy extra 64mb ram, will I have much better UT performance?

Oh god yes.

What's your CPU Clocked at and also what graphics card are you using? If it's a voodoo card make sure you use 3dfx -glide i thing- instead of open GL or Glide.

skum:
it depends on what you do with your comp. for JUST playing games, and not multitasking much at all, 128 is fine. when you get into complex graphics programs, run servers, multitask a bunch of big programs etc, then the added ram comes into play.

Heres a couple of related questions I've always wanted an answer for..

-What's a good cache size to set in UT if you have 128mb of ram?

and secondly..

-What does the 'slow video buffering' option do?..I have a Voodoo3 3000 APG, 128 mb of ram and a p2 450...should i enable slow video buffering?..might that help eliminate that annoying pause in the game when you switch to a weapon for the first time in a game?

thanks!..someone give me some help

Can't help you on your second question, though...

'slow video buffering' is only for software
basicaly setting it to true helps software render speed up FPS
dosnt do anything in glide/d3d/ogl

As if you already didn't recieve enough input, YES, DO IT!!

64 is terrible! 128 is good, is good, but I recently upgraded to 256 and it's awesome! I actually can tell a difference in loading times with 256, so much faster.

I will be upgrading my ram to 128 also. I found 64MB of ram for $28 at www.pricewatch.com even if it's a generic brand, it should work just as well as any other brand.

I've got 256 ram. Anyone know what a good cache size would be to set?

You're good as gold if you set your cache to 3/4 your total RAM.

Looking for top line memory, go here:

Thanks to Bounca and Rooster for the site. High quality memory, low prices. You gotta check 'em out.

Psycho,

I beleive the 3/4 of your RAM rule will still apply for 256'ers as it does for 128'ers. Therefore set it to 192 (yes I needed a calculator for that).

Bout the post mentioning pricewatch.com...I don't trust some of those prices, they often will link you up to a merchent only to find out that the product you wanted is at a much higher price than that stated at pricewatch. (I wouldn't trust 64 RAM in the $20 range anyway)

So is it 1/4 or 3/4, cuz I'm doing the same thing going from 64 to 128 today.

Btw, newbie to the forum. Hi. Hey. Wassup? How's everyone doin'?
