Diablo 2 for multiplayer and if you like RPG's, Deus Ex for single player, Serious Sam 2 is too short and boring.

Yeah I played MP and wasn't too impressed. Singleplayer is fun if simple: You runa round slaughtering the hordes of evil. And when I say slaughter, I mean like: Can I fill the whole screen with corpses? :p

The character development adds some motivation. Which you will need after you've beaten Diablo for the third time.
Very nice cutscenes.

Deus Ex is a cool sp game, not so much slaughter, far less enemies. More realism like, you can easily die if you aren't careful. Nice character development. More story, more variation in gameplay.

Get D2 if you're into killing hordes of things over and over. Get Deus Ex if you're into stuff like TacOps and Infiltration, though it's even more reality and team based.

Get the demos, see what ya like.

This is the D2 demo. The link isn't fileplanet. :D You'll only be able to play a third of the first act (there are four acts pre-expansion) and you'll only get to play the barbarian (five classes available in pre-expansion). But playing it will give you a far better indication of how it is than the best explanation here.

I don't know where to find a non-fileplanet d/l of Deus Ex, and I have no idea what serious sam is like.

Non-FP d/l for the Deus Ex demo: Deus Ex Center

There's also an additional mission for the demo.

I wouldn't say the demo missions are too representative tho; they are the first two missions of the game, and most people I know who only played those levels were disappointed as they look a bit boring and don't play as good as the later levels; those who played past them seemed to really like the game.

I wouldn't say DX is that much like inf or to; I never played System Shock, but I guess it's more like that one. Of course, you can play it like an FPS game, but it's not really Unreal- or Half-Life-like as you haven't got as much ammo as in these games, and you're also slower (ok, if you play it this way it's probably like inf or to). Another possibility is to play it Thief-like (= sneaking around), and of course anything in between those two possibilities. :)

Personally, I'd definitely recommend DX, it's a really great SP game with very interactive gameplay (compared to other FPS, at least) and a cool storyline. I haven't played Serious Sam tho, I guess it's totally different from DX (run around, shoot everything). I played D2 at a lan, quite cool game but not really the stuff I like.

Deus Ex is the overall best game. I would still highly recommend getting the package with D2 and the Expansion (the Expansion is what makes D2 REALLY kick ass).

Haven't played SS2 yet.

How is it a fiasco? It works very well, no bugs, plenty of "help me" team play moments....it is a bit too much like the single player mode but thats not a bad thing.

I agree, DX takes the cake.

A review I read complained about Denton's voice being flat and unemmotional.

I think this was a good call, however. The character is supposed to be open ended, defined by the game player. When he sounded "flat" or uninterested about certain topics, it leaves room for interpretation (he could be uninterested / he could be acting uninterested / etc...), where if he were to give away certain emotions when responding to certain things this might contradict the players percepton of Denton, which would of course distract from the "reality" of the game, and therefore lift the suspension of disbelief. How can you make a game so open ended, and the meanings of conversations closed by locking in a specific emotional response? You can't. Denton's reactions had to be vague.

Many games simply avoid this issue all-together by having the main character not talk (half-life, System Shock 2, etc) which is very understandable.

Ooh! Another poll idea...
