The original Unreal has some kind of "coolness factor" that other games haven't touched yet. Certain levels exhibit this more than others. What was your most memorable experience in Unreal?

I'm sure we all had that first shock looking over the cliff in the second level, but I have memories of this and other levels in y ind like I was really there. Some "Unreal Moments" I remember most vividly...
<UL TYPE=SQUARE>
<LI>the mini-quest to get the "stick of 6 fires" in Chizra

<LI>Lighting the Torch of Tranquility in the Temple of Vandora

<LI>Two words- The SunSpire

<LI>Gateway to NaPali- I used to kill everything, then sit and stare at the waterfall and over the edge!

<LI>NaPaliHaven -I can still see myself walking around the streets of that town.

<LI> The Nali Castle of course

<LI>fighting the Demon Lord

</UL>

This game is still fun to play, and I eagerly await a sequel.

I liked the Skaarj ambush in the 3rd level. I wish there had been more scripted sequences like this in the game.

Fighting off all those Skaarj in the dark coridoors of the ISV-Kran. A good melee weapon (lightsaber? chainsaw?)would have been REAL nice for *that* level.

Seeing the Stone Titans 'house' for the first time. /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

Yeah Wolf I agree with your memorable moments. My extra comments:

The Skaarj ambush in Rrajigar was sverely unpleasant. Great /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

Going outside for the first time was a severe wow.

Jumping off the waterfall cliff (first thing i did /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif) and actually dying was DOH.

Seeing Chizra for the first time - after the fairly dull Rrajigar it was a taste of what Unreal could really do.

Fighting the Titan in Dark Arena!

Seeing the size of Terraniux at the end of Harobed Village.

Escaping the collapsing ISV-Kran in something of a hurry.

The dark halls of the SunSpire - fragging by Flarelight.

The wow factor of Na Pali caves & haven.

Bluff Eversmoking - 'nuff said.

Walking through the castle seen in the flyby.

Completing the game and watching the ending sequence.

Notice no mention of Terraniux itself or the MotherShip...

Terraniux is the largest map of the bunch I think. What was your problem with it? I thought it was extremely confusing first and second and third time around. After that....it was easy (LOL)

Diving down the water and going in the right pipe and properly orienting myself at the same time was probably the single most frustrating part.

On the other hand, it certainly was fun exploring the level (if you off everybody beforehand)

Terraniux is ok but the music drives me nuts! k_vision.umx is a good track but after a while (esp. after my 3 hour walkthrough playing session) it grates...

We know that you prefer UT. Your repeated childish and smart-*** remarks are only going to give classic Unrealers a bad image of the UT community and consequently put them off - that is if it has ANY effect at all.

What possible satisfaction can you gain from this?

Hi there!

My most enjoyable Unreal moment was in fact when I got my first 3dfx card (for which the only reason to buy was because playing on a Matrox Mystique 220 in 320X200 on software was a pain in the *** /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif) so I could enjoy playing Unreal and actually be able to see all the eye candy they put into the game /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif !

One of my favorite moments was the first time playing through in the Cellers at Dasa Pass. The last room where you are shut in with the Krall and they just keep coming and coming and coming, I was stuck there for about a week. I was excited when the gate on the far side finally opened. It seems easy now but at that time I was playing with a cast on my right hand (I am right-handed) only letting me use one finger and learning to use the mouse with my left. As a side note, using the mouse in the left hand is the only way I can play or use the comp now.

Playing in software rendering is the way I played through the SP game the first 5 or 6 times at 600x800 resolution. After the 224 patch it was unplayable that way for me so I had to buy a Voodoo3 3000 just to play this game.

One other moment that is probably high on many people's list as well as mine is the first time you see the Titan bite the dust.

Least favorite moment is actually buying it in the first place. It has resulted in MANY MANY hours that could have been spend on something more constructive.

One last favorite is finding so many decent people here.

I do agree. I know Unreal was released quite close to Half-Life and a lot of people put Unreal down on the basis of it's weapons and the sometimes poor level design. I did enjoy the game and it wasn't as bad as people made out. It does have a very "cool" atmosphere like u said and I did find even the first level (NyLeves Falls?) very amazing. I walked around gawping at the scenery for ages! I liked the sunspire level although I had to cheat to get to it as I never seemed to be able to get past that Terraniux Underground level! Oh dear. Must go!

I must be experienced by now! Come on!
