We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

(Sarcasm Off).

OK, yesterday afternoon, I deleted a few things (mainly zip files and old text files) that were clogging up my 8GB hard drive. I became suspicious when they didn't show up in the Recycle Bin as they should've and just disappeared.

Next thing I know, Windows is reporting that I'm down from 200mb free to 50mb free, even though I've just deleted some files! I'm by now thinking W-T-F!

Has anyone else here had this problem and fixed, or does anyone know the solution? I'm thnking that maybe an overnight defrag might solve it (I need to defrag anyway) but what the hell is up? Cheers.

If you hold the shift key down (or it was stuck) files are deleted directly - bypassing the recycle bin. Maybe that is what happened?!

Well the defrag (which was truly epic - 10 hours and 20 minutes) didn't help.

I didn't hold the shift key down and I'm sure it wasn't stuck, although thanks for the suggestion Task.

If my FAT is indeed fried, then what can I do to restore it back to it's former glory? I might just write it off and hope it one day comes back, but at the moment files are building tower blocks on my hard drive because space is so limited /~unreal/ubb/html/wink.gif

If your FAT is damaged, a prog like Norton MIGHT be able to save it. Not likely tho. Also, if a defrag takes that long, it's a really good sign that your hard drive is in the crapper and about to be flushed. I'd say it was time for a new one.

Actually there is a relatively easy way to help fix your FAT, though it isn't 100% in the fix it won't scrag your drive any further /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

Boot into DOS (oh dear, are you afraid of the CLI?) at the prompt type fdisk /mbr

notice the /mbr it is _VERY_ important. What you are telling fdisk (the fixed disk setup program) to do is rebuild the Master Boot Record.

Not only is this a fairly safe operation, it can fix annoying problems like this and as an added bonus, any FAT viruses that you currently have will blow themselves up and go away /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

I belch in your general direction.

Thanks tykeal I'll try that.

BTW, I'm not afraid of the CLI /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif I used to be (and still am) an Amiga user.

Hmm I dunno if the fdisk command did the trick or not, but I've got a lot more free space. Maybe it did work. Cheers /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif
