Will there be ANY loading screens?

Am I correct in my assumption that the only loading screens one will see are when you start the program and when you join a server?

Hooray for dynamic loading if it's so.

This is what I understand, since they have the map streaming support, might as well use it. since the map choices are known before hand unless their is voting, you might be able to go from one match right into the next. Now with map voting, one possibility, is that you choose the map, and while your sitting around in the old map, the new one loads, and people start moving into it as they load it.

well, after some rounds i know what a map looks like. i d prefer some replay of killing sprees of the previous round instead of a loading screen.

well that will be hard ,so u want the map to load and show killin spree's from the roud before then it would take more time to load the map don't u agree?

Well, I am not a specialist at all in such things but I have the feeling that this idea is far from being a silly one... someone who knows can maybe tell if this thing is possible or not?

why i mean wont it be hard to load the level and show the match at the same time?,and it would take longer to load the level

Well if i have understood this correctly it is meant to work like this,
You drive North with your Scorpion and the game preloads a new "grid" in front, left and right etc. The game will always preload so that wherever you go itll be seamless.

So, i dont see why it wouldnt work with a lets say CTF server running a known maplist.
If theres a mapvote itll be back to the old times again tho (i think)

Also EL BOURIKO:s idea should work but instead (with the known map list scenario) of starting the next map immidietly we would look at the killingsprees first.
I like this idea tho because that would open up for some chat between the maps which could be used to ask some players to move to the losing team etc.

As it is now theres no rest between the maps and if theres uneven teams it just goes on and on and on, until players drop.

well it's a nice idea but while your loading the next lvl and watching the movie it will load slower because they both take resources and that will make it harder to load

Yea, well, apparently Epic has come up with a solution so that it can load the next Area/Map without decreasing the performance.

Otherwise they wouldnt promote it like they do.

I think that only works for maps that are somehow connected to each other.
ie : the gigantic Conquest-maps. Those would 'know' what maps they connect to so their resources could be 'prepared' to expect such a change.

But streaming two completely separate maps ? I doubt that's possible. If only because the server would be switching maps and not the clients. It'd effectively would result in servers running at least two maps at the same time per server-instance.

Wouldn't really be good HCI to do that.

What i'd prefer to see is a seamless loading of voted map whilst you get given a quick we silly random arena to fob about it. Or interactive map voting. When the game finishes you're into a small Quake1 menu style arena and y'all run to your map choices.. done decently it'll have the map loading by the time the last vote's caste

I think it's owrth not over estimating what this Map streaming business is all about, a similar scenario occured involving UT's Karma physics before 2003 came out. A lot of the great idea's people had about how karma could be used in game never came to light and no one realised that all of UT's physics were made, essentially, to save time making death animations. Heh heh.

Not much information has been divulged about the streaming as such and to get fancifull about what they mean when they say it could lead to disapointment.

Constder this, RAM, yes thats right RAM. IF you have enough RAM to hold all the textures of one UT2007 map, you deserve a clap. now if the server is loading a second map it must reserve the textures in your RAM, you'll need much more than 2 Gigs of RAM to play one map smoothly while the other loads.
