Why don't we have slugs for the shotgun?

Why not? Just take the sniper shotgun I proposed a long time ago, or that double magazine selective fed pumpgun that is around these days. Why can't the shotgun also get the stuff for medium range?
Also the semi pellet only delivers half the damage of the pump pellet, isn't that a bit drastic for a autoload?
