Why does the LED in my mouse go from bright to dim?

    If I turn the mouse over (to look at the LED).
    Then run my finger over the LED.
    It gets bright for a second, then goes dim.
    Why?

    And can I change the color?
    I would like it to be Green.

    It tries to scare away your finger by becoming brighter. That's a natural defensive reaction.

    It's not easy being green, so probably not.;)

    Actually, green has a shorter wavelength than red. Shorter wavelength means more energy, so you might want to try bumping up the USB voltage.

    I guess that makes sense.
    Kind of like when my phone display dims.

    I thought that was a safety feature, so people don't go blinding themselves. As for making it green, maybe cellophane would do the trick.

    The colour of a LED is material dependant. You cannot change it. To get green loght you would have to replace the LED with a green one. Or move the mouse towards you at close to the speed of light. ;)

    If I move it faster then the spped of light.
    Then I can't see it.

    Oh, and the dimming down is power saving probably.
