What video card should I buy?

So for christmas, my dad said to tell him the name of a graphics card we should get since I told him our 16 Meg ATI Rage 128 is kinda dying (i can sell it for a smooth 40 bucks can. though )

I'm thinking mid range, no Geforce3 shizzel, most likely a Geforce 2...but which one do you think is the best bang for it's buck?

FYI, Rukee, I have an Elsa Gladiac GeForce 2 GTS (32 megs). It's ok, I guess. I'm no expert but I'd hold off until a game comes out that requires a new card, like Doom 3.

Get a geforce2 pro. Almost as cheap as a GTS, but a lot faster.

GeForce2 MX 400 is kinda middle of the road nowadays, rated higher than a V5 it should go the distance with tha new U
If money wern't tight I'd go for that Titan3 over at OCZ

Well, I got myself a 3D Prophet 4500 'till GeForce3 gets affordable

Just had a fly over ProjectX (no cheat - Dark Magic) - 700 Polys but still 30 FPS :tup:


I guess you need something over 600MHz Athlon with the KyroII chip to run smooth though...

it should cost less than $200 and it has great performance

I think I will buy a Ati Radeon 8500. Just waiting to see if they can improve their drivers. Ati rape Nvidia when it comes to performance in windows

i have a 64meg Geforce2mx400 and it ran max payne fine and runs quake3 at about 70-90fps and wolfenstein a bit slower, but it really drags with UT. don't know why

I'm still plopping along with a GeForce256 SDR (i.e. the very first GeForce) and it runs Max Payne, Q3 and UT just peachy in 1024x768.

I upgraded to my 3D Prophet 4500 64Mb from my ghey TNT2 M64 and saw about a 5 frame/sec increase because my CPU is slooooow (500MHz) but I'm getting and upgrade to an Athlon XP 1600+ so then I expect to see the card performing

I got the 3D Prophet with the Kyro II. Alot of people don't like it. But I haven't had any probs with it. And it runs better than my friends GF2 ultra.
