I bought my wife one of these Dyson vacuums for Christmas. http://ws4.goshopdirect.co.uk/showp...-DC14-SY&SID=05e044bc35447c740d72b14448cf4d61

My wife has a habit of vacuuming every couple of years because she doesn’t have any bags for the cleaner. This bag-less thing should help with that.

I’ve been reading reviews and 9 out of 10 are good, but I wonder about some of the bad reviews. I wonder how many of these reviews are actually written by people who work for Dyson, and how many are written by Dyson competitors.

There seems to be a huge difference in opinion on certain aspects of the cleaner. For example, a huge number of people claim that they thought they had a good vacuum and then tried out the Dyson and it picked up a bunch of stuff they never knew they had. Then somebody will come along and say they tried a Dyson after using their Hover that was full of dog hair and the Dyson didn’t pick up anything.

Most of the complaints seemed to be from the attachments and the one I bought didn’t have these attachments. I assume I won’t be having many problems.

Have any of you had any experience with these Dyson cleaners?

Supposedly, you never have to replace the filters in this one. You do if you rip them up cleaning them, but they are washable. You’re supposed to clean one of them every 6 months or so. Considering how often my wife vacuums, that translates into cleaning filters every 5 years. Maybe she’ll vacuum more when she has this one. I’m getting tired of plants taking root in our carpeting and growing.

They had other models before this one, and I think the first model had problems with the motor burning up with some people. Who knows? Some people might be vacuuming rocks with the thing. It’s supposed to be good if you have pets, but we don’t. I have a friend with dogs and they could really use the thing. When you sit down on their couch, you end up looking like Bigfoot with all the hair that sticks to your clothes.

My mother had a vacuum that cost $1400. It had something to do with NASA, but I don’t remember what. I don’t know if an engineer who worked with the space shuttle helped develop it, or they used the same composites used on the shuttle, or what. I know it was supposed to be designed on a computer, but I think that’s what they do with those Dysons now, and probably others.

Hers was supposed to pick up a bowling ball, it had so much power. She said it quit working and that the latch for the top would not latch. I found out that she threw away a filter that she needed. She asked me if I wanted it, but I wanted her to just get a filter for it; I didn’t want to take her $1400 vacuum. Then I find out she bought an Oreck and gave that expensive cleaner to the Salvation Army. Hell, I would have taken it if I knew she was going to do that.

Apparently Dysons are powerful enough that some insurers won't pay out on carpets over here. It wouldn't surprise me if that were just a rumor spread by the company though.

I don't know. while reading comments from people who owned them, one person said it pulled up a little carpet in a place, and another said to never buy one. they said it pulled/sucked up their carpet. i assume they had crappy carpet to begin with.

real men don't hit women. people who do that are the same people who yell at people waiting on them in stores and restaurants when they can’t yell back. Pretty sad.

Hey, remember when i created a thread about the ads at the top the page and how they were geared to our conversations? Check it out.
