What happens if I reinstall UT2K4 over existing copy

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Hi everyone, I was just sorting through my UT file and noticed that it had no screenshot file. I thought this is odd.

I also got an odd error when I first installed it and tried to run it the other day. I found a fix where you have to change the ut2004.exe file to ut2004x.exe.

This made it work, which it should have worked in the first place because, I paid full price for it, it is the ECE, so it's totally legit copy. I just want it to be back to normal with all the files working so I was wondering if I just reinstalled it from the DVD would it fix all these problems....AND...will it leave all my crosshair/sens/custom settings alone, or does it write over them?
;)

Thanks for any help, Prozac :)

yeah, you can re-install the game over it but it will overwrite the files changed by the patched. After re-installing the game you will need to patch it again and it should work as it did before.

Also, try saving a copy of the current ini files because they get overwritten and you will lose that info when you re-install and patch the game. There are also some other files that you need to save which contain the player models info and some mutators, I think, but I can't remember which files they were. What you might want to do is save as many .ucl, .int and .upl files in case you lose some other stuff.

What do you think about the missing Screenshot file, and the Startup error I got the last time I installed?

Any idea why this happened?

No it's a real file in your UT2004 directory..I solved that one though. For some reason, until I took the first screenshot, the file was not there, once I took some screenies, it auto created itself.

Now if I could just solve the stupid problem where If you have the dvd version, you have to change your ut2004.exe file this: ut2004x.exe.....but after you do that and you check the properties of the startup icon, it says this: ut2004x.exe.exe That's messed up.

It's not being shown in my task manager when it is open and running UT. I just wanted it to be the normal .exe file that I had when I first bought the CD version of UT2004. I have both the CD version and the DVD version.

Thanks everyone for you help.....keep it coming. :):):)

I just suggest patching your copy with UT2004 with a newer version. The newest version around is 3369, iirc. There could be newer, but not that I can find.
