What do i need to set up a LAN?

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

And connect the LAN ports of the two PC together. If both PCs are set to obtain their IP address by DHCP then they should eventually negotiate a link local IP address and be able to see each other.

If you have an ADSL modem/router with a 4-port switch in the back then all you need is two ordinary network cables to plug the PCs into the router and you'll have your LAN.

If you don't have a switch at the back of the router or more than 4 of you want to play UT then try

or

if money is tight.

Yes. More than enough for playing UT on the LAN.

You don't have to buy that exact model - it was just an example of a cheap switch. You could have a look in the local computer shops (but not PC World or the like) to get something similar.

If there are only two PCs then the cable will suffice.

remember you need a crossover to directly connect 2 pcs. if you have a swith it usually doesnt matter what cable you have as it sets it up automatically.

btw you can get a gigabit switch for under 30€ nowadays. can come in handy if you push big files over the lan often.

Unless the two PCs are already hooked up to the same router/hub/switch then yes.
Otherwise you can just host a game & it should show up on the Lan tab automagically.
