The problem that I have is that gun fire and any effects sound distorted...almost like hearing them over an AM radio station with poor reception. Music however sounds fine, as well as other games (only really tested Max Payne, but it works fine). I just installed Win XP Pro on this system (Athlon XP 1700, Epox 8KHA+, 512MB DDR, SB Live! Value, GeForce3 64MB DDR, etc), and also got the update for SB Live from Windows Update. Is anyone else experiencing this problem as well? BTW, the SB Live isn't sharing any IRQ's with any other hardware. Any ideas?

Try setting the Sample rate to max (22000Khz) in your unrealtournament.ini

    try this maybe...

    Hi!

Since you've updated your sound software, you probably have also installed the LiveWare 3.0... yes? Well, either way, you may have an 'environmental effect' running. You said that your other sounds, (ie music, etc,) sound fine... but you might check those pesky sound card effect settings, too.

    good luck (you'll need it!)

i have no environmental effects running. i don't even have the EAX software installed, as creative haven't released a windows xp version yet, so i'm stuck with windows standard drivers

try toggling the use filter option to false, and also try toggling reverb to false and see if that helps :) try one, then theother, then both... hopefully this helps you :)

Turn it off, quit, restart and listen.
If it's gone, it's the same prob I have.
If I shut down UT with the hardware acc. enabled, it's is saved in the ini file, and when I restart, it's loaded, but since UT and SB Live don't like eachother, the sound will screw up, so the best sollution (If you haven't found another, like new drivers or so) is to turn it of every time you shut down, and turn it on when you have started.
I don't thing just toggle it on and off makes any difference if you don't restart the game between...

(BTW, This is my 500:ed post (whopee! :B   ))

Have you got the Creative EAX enhancements for UT installed? They're meant to distort sound... do they sound the same wherever you go? If not then its probably a EAX thing.

i've just installed the driver update for windows XP, and the sound is still crackling. i've tried re-installing UT, and that doesn't fix it. Changing whether 3d sound is on or off doesn't change it. I'm tearing my hair out over it!!

have you tried reinstalling the card?

WDM drivers could be causing the crackling :(

It could be the new xp sb sound drivers.

When I close out of aol (I know, I know...best choice right now) I can hear a static noise after the normal voice sound. I have been trying to get surround sound to work in T2 and I can't get sound out of the rear speakers. I looked at there site and under xp they said they did have some issues they were working on. It's not clear if the new drivers resolved everything or not.

Arkive - You said that you got the drivers in Windows update which means the drivers are Microsoft ones. Go to the sound blaster live site and download the Creative Labs Win XP Drivers.
