Hello,
I’m been working on trying to get the basics of UnrealEd2004 down and make my own map for some time now. I’m able to make “a basic room” but now I’m trying to fill that pool with water.
I check out Freon’s tutorial at:
http://wiki.beyondunreal.com/wiki/Fluid_Surfaces
And I thought I was doing great all the way up until the point where the author says:
“Because we don't want to cover the whole surface with it, we'll use an alpha channel. In a Graphics Application like Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop, open your moss image and create a new mask (see screen shot in PSP).”
Right there I completely lost everything.
“An alpha channel is used to vary the transparencey in a image. The image is opaque where the alpha channel is white.”
Pretty good explanation of what it is I thought, but then he goes on to say….
“…. Draw some stuff on the alpha channel. You'll have to save your image in a format supporting alpha chanels (.TGA). It will be store inside the file. In PSP you have to use the Save in an alpha channel in the Mask menu.”
Um…. “Draw some stuff”? wha…what does that mean? Draw what stuff? Draw red stuff? Draw blue stuff? Draw green stuff…? What stuff am I drawing and where do I draw it at? For one thing when I open up that file in PS7 I get almost what he has in the picture…
I guess I’m just slow at this stuff. I was always a gamer, but never wanted to design anything of my own up until a few weeks age. I am not mad at the author of this tutorial at all in fact, he got me further than 2 other guys.. but I guess it’s just kinda frustrating..
If anyone has the time or anything and wouldn’t mind helping me out, please let me know.
thanks so much – and great website
