Voice?

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

I've got Battlecom too, but of all 3, it's the one I use the least. The best program is one that encompasses not only quality but also uses low bandwith and also low CPU processing as well as ease of use.

M$ GameVoice = Battlecom now ...
it's good, altough it doesn't work if you're using internet-connection sharing in Windows 98 :p

I'll stick with RW, thank you - Mac compatible, low bandwidth, easy to view who's on what channel via a WEB interface, private channels creatable by any user.... Although GameSpy bought 'em out, so I may have to change my opinion. :db

Check out the SOBServers homepage for both RW and Teamsound links run by us. The TS server is down right now, its being a PAIN IN THE ASS running under Win2k. :)

Battlecom is ok, but it kept crapping out and dropping channels for some of my users - one guy hosting one channel is great, but a server has problems, big time.

Only thing I'll ever congradulate HL on is integrated voice-chat.. Maybe the next update of UT could do that? It definately makes POS CS just a bit more fun. And in INF? It would be the most beautiful game of all time (not that it already isn't :p). :D

Maybe because it allows mod-programmers to do tricks (like prevent 'ghosts' from talking to living players ?) you can't do if it's a stand-alone program.

Or maybe because in this way it is possible to use it on public servers ? If I play on-line I simply look for the fastest server, I don't spend any time trying to find if they've got a voice-comm server running.

Even if I knew there was a voice-comm server running before I joined the fact that there are at least 3 different and incompatible programs out there doing so would require that I install all of these different versions just in case ... (never mind that not every server might not have the same up-to-date version)

To use Battlecom I had to make sure I started BC *before* I started UT. So if I found a server running a BC-server, then I would have to quit UT, start BC and try to find the server again (and hope there still is a place left) ...

is it impossible to use a separate voice-comm program now that it is integrated into half-life ? It would be bad if that was impossible ...

Hehehe, no problem for me since I use 2 computers, 1 to play on and one for RW. :D

That way I can use ICQ while I play or IRC.

So if you guys play with me and I type something reallt strange, I have probably just answered ICQ or IRC on the wrong keyboard. :D

I´ve been thinking about that too. I have an old Laptop that could servve as comm. computer so Inf can use all power avaible at my primary computer. But does it really make any diffrence?

Well, if you play a clanwar you can see if any of your members drop out, and tell them in the game. Or if your INF chrashes you can easily tell them over RW that you have to restart or something.

You can also see if the enemy logg on to spy on you. :D

Then of course, you dont use resorces that INF need. Not that RW or BC use that much memory or CPU power but if you have a slow computer you sure need all the power you can get.
